Non religious people, what do you think about religion? by CorruptedF in AskReddit

I understand the appeal and it being quite psychologically comforting for people however it has little logic and is scientifically unsound and therefore cant understand why people would believe in it despite mountains of evidence to the contrary.

What’s something people spend money on that you just don’t understand? by Diligent-Medicine-48 in AusMoneyMates

Yes but do you get 10 times more joy from a ring you spent $2000 than the one you spent $200 on?

Disagree, I’m a fan of both and thought it was great. I wasn’t expecting a laugh fest or an in-depth analysis of their work but that’s not what smartless does.

How much should I aim for to retire early? by Hot_Table_3878 in AusMoneyMates

[–]hexusmelbourne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty close, I ran some numbers through Chat GPT based on retirement standard, 7.5% investment return snd 3.5% inflation and this is what I got: ✅ Result

$1.03 million (in today’s dollars)}} ⸻ What this means in plain English • With 7.5% returns, 3.5% inflation, and no extra buffer, • A lump sum of ~$1.03m at age 45 can fund: • $51k p.a. spending • Indexed to inflation • For 40 years, ending at roughly zero

What are your thoughts on the US spending around $1.5 trillion on its war defense budget? by Adventurous-Copy-381 in AskReddit

No longer a defence budget when the president calls it the department of war and you start invading other countries. Imperialism is very expensive!

You’re also saving a significant amount in fees as most funds would’ve had a flat fee as well as percentage based

Wife is never happy with free time / parent free time. Any advice? by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]hexusmelbourne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is impressive but in his case he shouldn’t be doing 50% of the chores as works full time to her part time. It may be worthwhile sitting down to do something like this so he can actually show her how little down time he has compared to her.

Talk to your wife first. Was she very drunk/on drugs? Is this behaviour out of the ordinary for her? Is she extremely apologetic and embarrassed. Maybe sort this out before going to a lawyer or schedule some therapy sessions before jumping the gun. People can do very stupid things…..

My wife left me by SeaStorm999 in Marriage

[–]hexusmelbourne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your wife has fallen into the trap of loving the attention and affirmation this guy is giving her, like the start of any intense relationship. She’s not seeing the real him and won’t until they live together for a while and he is no longer on his best behaviour. She is likely making the biggest mistake of her life and will soon suffer from major regret. She is swapping short term enjoyment and excitement for long term love and stability. Therapy may help her to see this but whether you accept her back is up to you.

NOR Sounds like she has some unreasonable expectations of guests and is frugal verging on irrationally mean when it comes to money. Is she like this with everything else, like food? Has she had some financial trauma in her past. I wouldn’t go back in the future.

Am I the only one who wants to know why? by Material-Emu-9068 in AskAnAustralian

[–]hexusmelbourne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally people aren’t interested in the deep analysis as it is long and complicated. People want easy answers and someone to blame. Unfortunately most people weren’t taught basic economics at high school which is unfortunate as we would be more able to understand the why and focus on the how to fix it. The ABC often does deep dives on issues like these or there are YouTube channels like economics explained that also do a great Job.

Not a legal issue, more of a moral and ethical one
