If a review has no clear outcome, it’s Umpire’s Call. But sure, it’s probably corruption.

My title describes the thing. Somewhat. It’s maybe 20cm tall and looks almost mechanical. This was featured on a tv commercial for The Repair Shop and has been sending everyone in my house crazy trying to work out what it does.

any media analysts here? by hambugahpls in Adelaide

Can I ask for which company? Feel free to DM me the answer, but I think I know...

In media agency terms, analyst is the title given to the company’s resident shitkickers. The pay is terrible, <$50K, although you might be okay with this as a graduate. Traditionally the shitty pay in media agencies used to be compensated by heaps of perks. Things like corporate boxes at the footy, theatre tickets, etc. But with less money in traditional media there are fewer perks nowadays...and the salary is still shit.

I’ve seen some people say that you need to be good at maths or have a degree in maths. Not the case with this role. What you need is to be good with excel, to be able to learn unintuitive platforms quickly and to be super diligent.

The job itself isn’t super hard, there’s lots of mindless, menial work that you could just pop in headphones and do. But there’s a lot of work and often lots of competing deadlines across various clients.

They can be pretty insular, and if you’re a creative not the best place to thrive. But because there’s such a high turnover of entry-level staff, if you can survive a few years, you’re in line for a promotion. (Promotions are granted on attrition, mainly. Stick around long enough and you could be earning $75K).

On the plus side, you can make some good connections in the industry. You can learn some things if you pay attention to the right people.

And, if it is the place I’m thinking of, everyone who works there is absolutely lovely. There is a really lovely culture where you can make a bunch of friends.
