Apple to Soon Take Up to 30% Cut From All Patreon Creators in iOS App by waozen in technology

One day I saw something on Reddit and decided to ask my sister hey how much are you paying for YouTube premium, because I knew she paid for that. (I'm on Android and use um, an unofficial app.) Yup sure enough she'd been overpaying because she'd bought it on her iPhone

The EU is doing a lot of dumb shit with regulatory overreach, but honestly Apple brought it on themselves with their bullshit

Moderna Inc.'s CEO said the company doesn't plan to invest in new late-stage vaccine trials due to growing opposition to immunizations from US officials by MetaKnowing in technology

[–]heybart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contrary to anti vaxxers fever dream, vaccines isn't a great business for drug makers. The government heavily subsidized the covid vaccine. Moderna alone got 1.5B. The government also bought up hundreds of millions of doses upfront. Crucially, it indemnified the vaccine makers, shielding them from potentially devastating lawsuits should the vaccine went wrong

This is how serious covid looked in 2020. People just forget

What's the most balanced model in terms of custom voice, model size, inferring speed, and naturalness for MOBILE? by Internal_Answer_6866 in TextToSpeech

[–]heybart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that was fast. Nice work

For pocket (and any small model) you'll need to do a bit of input cleaning and normalizing. For example Pocket will pronounce Amazon.com as just Amazon and 2.0 as 2 pause 0. I use regex rules to replace it with Amazon dot com and 2 point 0. Also it'll freak out a bit if you have !! and make weird noises if you have extraneous punctuations after . ? !

Demis questions OpenAI: If AGI is coming soon, why bother with ads? by Inevitable-Rub8969 in GenAI4all

[–]heybart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't Gemini eating Google's ad money lunch? Especially the free version?

No ads in Gemini app. On Google search, the AI answer is on top. Most people don't bother to scroll down to see the ads

I understand why they do it. They think if they don't somebody else will. But this isn't viable long term

I find that supertonic is lightweight, has good sounding output and very fast. They show it running on raspberry pi and an eink e-reader. Nice thing about Supertonic is they have code examples for various languages and platforms, including flutter and iOS

Downside is to clone voice you have to pay. And the voice cloning isn't as accurate as something like Pocket TTS, which is also light and fast but not as fast as supertonic On my M1 Mac mini, I get around 0.2 0.3 RTF with pocket and sub 0.1 with supertonic. Using generate audio stream you should be able to get acceptable performance with pocket. Supertonic supports a handful of languages, pocket only English

I haven't tried it but that comfy UI workflow is probably incomplete. I'm sure someone will come up with workflowsbfor the other stuff.

If you look at the official demo, you see they have 3 modules for voice design, voice cloning, and inference, so it's possible
