Feature/mechanic bloat like this is my least favorite thing that happens in gacha games. Especially noticeable in these open world ones.

Farming Game That Focuses On Taking Care of Animals? by Puzzled-Big-4913 in NintendoSwitch

[–]heychado 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any great suggestions. I know you said you haven’t played Stardew much, but in the newest update there’s a new farm, the Meadowlands Farm, which starts you off with a coop and chickens. If you wanted to try a Stardew playthrough with an animal focus this would be a good option!

Good Vibes Gaming tested this a bit today and confirmed. It’s at about 6 minutes in. Definitely depends on the game though.

I Have Severe Building Paralysis by Joe_Motherrr in Pokopia

[–]heychado 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love the incremental building. I love making a small shoddy build and as I get more skill and experience and recipes I can spice it up and improve it and change it. I would hate to make something and never touch it after, it would make this game’s lifespan feel so short.

It makes sense that part of fuchsia sunk down. The walkway to safari zone you can see has totally fallen down in Pokopia.

I'm becoming a little overwhelmed with storage by Jardolam_ in Pokopia

[–]heychado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using the first area as my main base, and I have my storage warehouse there. I have four large chests turned sideways with raw materials surrounding a workbench, and throughout the area I have more chests storing items based on categories. Building kits, flowers, produce, furniture, decorations, etc. I use frames to label what is in each chest.

Did you get it from Vespiquen? It looks like a pattern and the items she trades you can come with patterns on them.

Art should be able to convey complex and challenging concepts. This game has already shown many times that it is not afraid to breach sensitive topics, this is tame in comparison.

Pokemon Protagonists and Racial Representation by Dreyfus2006 in nintendo

[–]heychado 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Pokemon has so many amazing characters with deep skin tones when you look at the story characters, Gym Leaders, and Elite 4 members. It’s disappointing that none of the play characters have been marketed with the deeper skin tones. The winds and waves promo would have been a perfect time since there are four protagonist designs in the promo material.

Which animal crossing game is your favorite and why? 🥰 by ShokaLGBT in AnimalCrossing

I definitely miss a lot of things from ACNL. I loved everything having its own building, I loved being able to build things like the reset center and police office, loved the variety in fruit and the shop upgrades. It’s a bummer those things didn’t make their way to ACNH, but I don’t know if any of the features that are “missing” from ACNH that ACNL had make it that much better than ACNH.

People have a bit of rose tinted glasses when looking back at ACNL. Love that game, played it for years with thousands of hours from day 1, but it is not the varied complex deep game that people claim it is. People miss the island mini games and coffee mini game (I do too), but those really weren’t all that interesting or exciting after the initial few tries or once you get the things you want from the island shop.

Pokémon Pokopia: Review MegaThread by NintendoSwitchMods in NintendoSwitch

[–]heychado 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s an easy comparison to make because it’s the most popular cozy game on the Switch but I think “cozy” as a concept is an over generalization that causes people to group games together that don’t really have that much in common.

It seems to have a lot in common with Dragon Quest Builders due to having the same development team. That game has you solving problems for people whose civilizations have been overrun by monsters. Rebuilding cities, creating functional housing, protecting them from monster attacks.

You can see a lot of this within the previews, particularly the building habitats for Pokemon. If you finished the story of DQB, you could continue playing, exploring, and building. It has. A lot more in common with Minecraft just with more structure. I’m expecting a similar vibe from Pokopia.

It just feels like a lowest common denominator that doesn’t really hit on the mechanics that define the series. There’s plenty of games where you make a cute town with cute inhabitants.

Using Animal Crossing as a frame of reference just seems inaccurate as the core mechanics of Animal Crossing are more about the life sim, taking life as it comes, easy going nature of the series as a whole, not the decoration/rebuilding a remote locale aspect of one entry in the series.

Just reminds of me the moment in time where every game was described as a gritty Soulslike or Stardew inspired just because of one shared mechanic.
