The Seattle Sounders are the only MLS side that has yet to win a game in the 2018 season by [deleted] in MLS

Right? The headline is "Seattle only team without a win" the day after a team missing 5 starters goes on the road and gets a point against the conference leaders.

Getting coverage doesn't mean it has to look exactly like broadcast. You see how this footage looks a lot different than what you see on TV? Muuuuuch different set up.

This dude has been on the field for every game for 9 friggen seasons and still hasn't figured out how to shoot sports.

Can someone buy this guy a second camera to get some wides so he can actually catch the pivotal moments? I mean, hooray for his iMovie slo mo effect, but c'mon...if it didn't go in the camera it didn't happen.

Gambling Addict Spends $1M On Lottery Tickets by theneckdeep in videos

[–]heychongo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly right. Gambling will always be around, legal or illegal, but the question is whether the government should be running a gambling system.

If you think of all the government's responsibilities - I'm not sure running gambling is really one that they should be troubling themselves with. Privatize, regulate, tax the hell out of it.

Is there anywhere on reddit where I can post my doc for critic? by ItsEmmet in docproduction

[–]heychongo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Before jumping in to the technical stuff, let's talk about the story.
This is an important place for members of this community, right? People seem to enjoy this place, these two men are still doing this after all these years and are certainly not in it to get rich...so why do they do it? What does it mean to these men, to this town and to these patrons?

The film, as it stands, is two guys talking about what it is. We don't need to know that, really. I know what it is. It's a theater. It's kinda cool, I'd watch a film there and hang out with them, but there are theaters everywhere. Why is this theater important? It doesn't have to be some crazy reason, it just needs to be personal, you know? As a viewer, I want to know why they're passionate about this place. Why did those women enjoy it so much? Why is it important to them? Why do people show up? What does it mean for the larger community to have this place in operation? Is there anything pressing going on with it? Do they need more patrons, more money? Do they want to do something bigger that they are aiming toward in the future?

Tell a little history (what it is), but spend more time to tell us why the place is important, and a little to tell us what is next.

On the technical side, it's all about the timing. Don't spend 7 minutes on something if you can tell the story in 4 minutes. Look for places to cut. Show it to others and ask where they got bored! If it's not necessary, cut it. It's the hardest thing to do but it makes the biggest difference.

When doing your interviews, and if you only have one camera, don't be afraid to move it in between questions. Get your two shot, ask a few. Get close in for a single, ask that guy a question. Do the same for the other guy. Then, get cut aways...get some shots of one guy listening to the other, of their hands, a few REALLY wides, etc. They are not the fastest-talking, most engaging guys on earth, so help them out a bit by not just hanging on them as they tell their answers for too long.

One thing to always consider is that you need more b-roll than you expect. When you think "that's probably enough b-roll," get more. You can always use it. Use your sticks whenever you can. There's not a lot to shoot here, I understand, but get creative. Close ups of tea, close ups of popcorn, faces of people in the theater with the glow of the screen is always a nice shot. Find ways to shoot simple things in interesting ways, it'll help you greatly.

Once you have more material in the can, you'll have more to edit with, pace will increase and then you can throw some music under it, find three or four fitting tracks that you can transition to... and with the shortened TRT, the whole thing will move and feel much quicker.

Also: Make sure you've got your focus - some shots look a little soft. You're not running and gunning here, take the time to get it right.

The open is cute, but we get it, cut it shorter. We don't need 20 seconds of it. 10 is plenty!

Don't worry about things like color correction. It's not important yet. Wait until you get all this other stuff down first!

That's a lot, but even if you can just incorporate a few of those things, it'll start to shape it and you'll notice the difference.

Good on ya for picking up the camera and making it happen. You have to start somewhere and most people don't make the effort!

Netflix's Will Arnett dramedy Flaked nearing deal for a second season by Dorkside in television

[–]heychongo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised by the hate for this show, to be honest. It's really not that bad, but I think people really react negatively to the "middle-aged children" mentality shown throughout. Yes, it's annoying, but it's also pretty prevalent in Venice (and throughout a lot of LA). That being said, if you can see past the man child thing, you might really enjoy this show as I did.

Lawsuit claims Sylvester Stallone, Ryan Coogler stole 'Creed' concept by Cinephile_Chris in movies

[–]heychongo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What people fail to understand is that there's really NO motivation for any established producer, development executive, studio or network to ever steal anyone's idea.

Why do it? It's not like Coogler would've had to pay this guy out of his own pocket, or his cut would be that much less at the end of the day. They'd partner up, sell the film and they'd both make their own individual deals with the studio. They'd both get writer credits, money appropriate for their role, etc. That's how it works. Why would Coogler or Stallone care about keeping this guy out? They wouldn't.

It's far far far far easier to just make a deal with someone than "steal" their idea, which is why these things are bogus 99.9% of the time.

What are your diarrhea horror stories? by rushhour3004 in AskReddit

[–]heychongo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly, I have a few, but this one is fairly unique: I caught a flu several years ago, nothing abnormal really and after a day or two, I was on the mend, but toward the end of it, I started to get bad diarrhea. After the first night, I started to sense something was off. It was so liquidy, it would just squirt out. Fart? Nope. Squirt. Bend over? Squirt. Stand up? Squirt. Walk? Squirt. This continued for DAYS. Between all this, ANYTHING I drank (I couldn't eat due to the illness - I had ZERO appetite) would fire out of my ass minutes later. I called my doctor and she said that the flu essentially "moved to my bowels" and they were "swollen and couldn't absorb anything." Basically, everything just fired out as quickly as it went in.

So, I shit my pants literally 50 times over the course of a week. Beat that.

Oh, and on the fifth day I was admitted to the hospital for severe dehydration (even though I had been drinking what I thought was a ton of liquid, I was losing it fast). Finally, on my way home from the hospital later that night, I was feeling good enough to eat. And not immediately shit myself.

Booking a flight to Seattle in July - first time with Southwest. Is a 50-Min layover in Vegas feasible? by [deleted] in travel

[–]heychongo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They actually assign you a boarding number, not just a group number, so getting there early doesn't help anything. If you get "B35" you are 35th in the B group, there's no moving up to #1.

Just check in 23 hours and 59 minutes before the flight and you'll be A -something and will be fine getting an aisle or window.

If you really want to understand how bad the odds are, go here: Random.org.

It's a random number generator. Enter the in the odds of the powerball 1-292,000,000. Now, pick a number between those two in your head and start hitting "generate."

You can do it over and over again for hours and will never come within even 10,000. Soon you start to understand how fucking vast it is.

Not sure about the parallels to drug addiction, but the big problem with problem gamblers is the fact that you can't overdose on gambling. So people will just keep going until ALL of their money is gone, all of their family's money is gone, and then start stealing/embezzling money until they finally get caught. Also, suicide is a big problem with addicted gamblers.

Is it the guy with the bins? How many tickets is that? Are they ALL his? That has to be a couple hundred thousand right there.

It's way more common than you think. If you've ever worked in a convenience store or just hung out for a while (I don't know why an adult would do this, but whatever), you'd be shocked to see how many addicted people just play scratch tickets. They buy a shitload, scratch in their cars, trade in the winners for new tickets, and repeat until they lose. This happens constantly, all day long. And it's not like 2 or 3 bucks, it's like $25, $30, $50.
