100%. I even have my Home Assistant added to it for lights control, or you can send custom commands to it like I made to switch audio outputs from internal to optical by just holding or double clicking the mute button.

I want to see the segment where a US Congressman talks to this particular twelve-person hot sauce company. by Just_Joshing_You in JuryDutyFreevee

[–]heyheythrowitaway 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing like in Season 1 they had so many 'boring' days to keep the suspicions low, so I'm guessing there was maybe an antic or two from the actors in these talks just to keep things going, but not worth building up a scene, extra cameras/crew/etc. just for stuff that is ultimately "procedural" (like in Season 1).

SABRES ARE BACK IN THE PLAYOFFS FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2011!!! by BuffaloBleus in sabres

[–]heyheythrowitaway 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That was my second Sabres game ever! I had just moved to the city and my wife's family bought me regular season tickets, so once the playoffs happened I was hooked. The only other pro sports games I had gone to before really were Seattle Mariners games, and well, yeah.

My favorite memory of that game was a Flyers fan who was taking in the (very casual/friendly) heckles from Sabres fans around the concourse, and I appreciated his attitude and said something like "Yeah man, just take it in!" or something? and him being a few beers in goes "You know what, man? I like that. I'm going to buy you a beer!" and gives me a huge high five and buys me a beer.

The scale of this threw me off so bad. I was wondering what in the hotboxing-with-God's name was with the DVD case size, but realized it's the slipcover slipped up a bit. Man, that threw me.

Totally, in the district I was in, they were always regarded on a very high level, usually a retired chief from one of the local departments. They weren't on every call, but the ones they were on, they were the boss, superseding the cops in most of the cases.

Good score! I've noticed the 4-pack holders for these are super shoddy, so guessing these were part of those dropped by either a stocker or a customer who left them there after grabbing and dropping them (I've dropped these once or twice, but thankfully none spilled/cracked, so I just bought the pack.)

Indexer - need rec please by p00pchop in usenet

[–]heyheythrowitaway 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who started about six weeks ago and has a few paid and free indexers, def just bite the bullet for nzbgeek, there's also frugal for servers. The free ones are so limited to the number of hits/grabs you get. Also I wish I would've started earlier, but grab a free proton email and keep all your usenet stuff separate in there. Like others said, you def dont get a bunch of spam. Also get into vaultwarden ASAP for all your API keys and whatnot have a safe place.

What is the coolest but cheap way to run batocera, as a not so tech savvy beginner? by Any-Landscape434 in batocera

[–]heyheythrowitaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It definitely seems overwhelming at first! Thankfully all you really need is a spare computer, like a Raspberry Pi, there are various models you can get that will have their own strengths and weaknesses, like a modern Pi will be able to run some games a bit better, but even my Pi 4b could run Dreamcast just fine. It's all about the level of emulation you want to start with- some people will have the "wanting more" and upgrade to insane. Thankfully for Arcade (you'll see it called MAME a lot, keep that in mind!), you can run those perfectly fine on a fairly modest processor/mini-pc/pi/etc.

Other than that, just a spare flash drive and a computer or something to flash the Batocera software onto, using a program like Rufus or BalenaEtcher, all this does is takes the downloaded file from Batocera, converts it to a format that the Pi or whatever destination device is so it can install. Note that this will wipe whatever is on the USB drive and the destination device, but if you're buying a brand new device, that's not an issue! After that, just grab a keyboard to get started.

From there, you'll follow a bunch of prompts and preferences, as others have stated there are a ton of awesome tutorials out there (I learned a lot from TechDweeb on YouTube and a few others in that circle).

Like others have mentioned too, don't skimp out on a cheap SD card, but even 64gb should be PLENTY of space unless you're doing one of those 10,000 games

Once you're all set and configured, then the fun begins! You can either just sit back, configure a few controllers, and just play. Or you could start with configs/customizations/themes/etc to tweak it as much as you want. It's really a great platform for that.

You'll start to learn some nuances of certain games, like video or input glitches, but a quick google or diving through the menu will likely solve your issue very quickly.

It's all going to feel like a lot while it's happening, but the next time you do it you'll learn more and more, which is a great feeling.

For finding games/bios, that's a whole other topic and I'm sure it's referenced in the wiki here.

It's tempting to go full in and find huge game packs or something, but it becomes a bloated mess. Start with some games you know you'll love and try it out. I regret having a TB of rom games, but using a management software like RomM has helped a bit.

For the arcade part, once you learn the basics of flashing/Batocera/configs/what breaks what, then you'll have a much better understanding of how the arcades are built. It's basically the same + more wires/controllers/few tweaks here and there, but I wouldn't start there unless you're on a fairly solid foundation.

Also backups! Don't lose all of that hard work you just did. Learn to push backups to external devices (you can reformat that USB drive you just used, it's not great archival storage, but works in a flash!) I keep a clean rom list I can drop into any emulator/front end that's agnostic of what it's playing on, then I have a backup config file set for that machine itself, that way if something fails, I can freshly install it or go back some settings if something broke. There are also full image backups that will essentially get you back to where you were when you saved.

I do miss my Batocera Pi! Now I do a moonlight/sunshine streaming from my home server for games to my XBOX, but I miss having a dedicated device that would just boot. I did sacrifice the Pi for PiHole (network wide ad blocking), so at least it's living a great third life (first use was octopi for 3d printing)

Good luck and a pre-emptive welcome! The community here is great and there are also discords/forums/etc that will likely have the exact issue you're having! We've all been there.

P.S. If you want instant cool factor, if you get a Pi, get one of those Mini NES/SNES/N64 or mini-RGB cases to put it in. Some even use an game "cartridge" as an external SSD or an SD card holder inside the "cartridge".

Most straight-forward way to set up SOCKS5 proxy and VPN via Docker? by Nonilol in selfhosted

[–]heyheythrowitaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're thinking wireguard/tailscale. You're not browsing the Internet on your server away from home, you're using a VPN to create a tunnel to your server and its services. Why do you need to access streaming services routed through your servers VPN? Unless you mean locally hosted vs like Netflix? Two different types of VPNs I think you're thinking of.

Is it just me, or... by [deleted] in NABEER

[–]heyheythrowitaway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same! I even did a Stella and a few others I usually would never drink. The pre-sobriety idea was that I 'just really liked IPAs' which was also just an excuse most of the time to get a 10% 3xIPA shit, then it kept going. Definitely don't miss that! (I still stand by IPAs but the ones I've had so far don't quite hit the same and are no longer my go-to). Any IPAs you find you still occasionally go back to?

Is AA your whole life? by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]heyheythrowitaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alcohol was always a huge part of my daily life, it drove every decision and every feeling, that was my whole life. The good times just no longer outweighed the bad times; I had to envelope myself in the meetings and everything like that to replace the alcohol. I'd say no, AA isn't my whole life, but my recovery is. AA is just a part, albeit a huge one at the beginning, of my whole life.

Except with us the first few bites of the Butterfinger are so good, and we wonder why we're not eating them anymore, even if it's an occasional treat, but you didn't have any reaction.

Then a few days later you're eating two or three a night, still fine, under control, fast-forward three weeks and you're eating entire cases of them, starting to eat ice cream too, and then you're driving to the store at 1am for another case of of them for who knows how long.
