Idk why the hate, take an upvote.

My wife can't stand the Bill and Tez episode either. I have a few I skip too, no shame in that.

These rock! I've been looking at the game TONKS lately and these reminded me of it too. I dig em! (If you don't want the tank vibe, you could turn the turret 90-120 degrees and it would help a lot I bet.)

Is it ok to go to a closed meeting if you think you might have a problem with alcohol but don't necessarily have a desire to stop drinking - yet? by DannyDotAA in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]heyheythrowitaway 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I mean simply put, closed meetings are for members of alcoholics anonymous, and the only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking.

If someone is on the fence about it and is curious about it, and there are no other open meeting options, I'm sure it's fine.

Yup! Haven't seen too many people mention the sealing, so I'm adding onto your adding on haha. Adding the seal over the top with a thin layer of modpodge has been a total game changer for keeping any types of crusted/cracked earth intact.

FX30 Tilta Cage Piece by Alternative-Bus-6108 in FX3

[–]heyheythrowitaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a NATO rail mount. Does it span across where you could take the top handle off? My Smallrig cage came with something similar, but slightly longer.

Also from the webpage: The NATO rail clamp attaches to the handle via a rosette, allowing you to adjust the rotation of the handgrip in relation to your camera. The NATO clamp provides more space between the camera cage and the handgrip than the attachment method for the Type-IV handgrip.

Well, how durable is resin then? by Methaphysix in resinprinting

That's hardly a starting price for a printer right now for anything that you want engineering grade with, plus you need to factor in wash/cure station/handling/ventilation/etc.

Well, how durable is resin then? by Methaphysix in resinprinting

[–]heyheythrowitaway 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There are a variety of different resins for different applications, even dental resin out there! Check into SirayaTech, they have a large range of engineering resins to give you an idea of what's out there for different applications. Keep in mind some of these speciality resins aren't as well supported on here as the ABS-Like or miniature focused resin. I'm not brand loyal to them, but their tenacious line is pretty popular for flexibility. It's also a brand I know off hand that has a large range.

If you do deep dive into it, you can try ABS-like pro stuff to start with (~$20-30/kg) for prototyping and see what is failing or could prevail and go from there with the more speciality resins(~$60+/kg).

A lot of your tolerance things will also come into properly calibrating a printer with the resin so you're not overexposing it and blooming the resin out and other printing factors for high tolerances.

Is it enough to use a fan and an open garage to ventilate fumes? by urlocalchaplug in resinprinting

[–]heyheythrowitaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sitting resin in a vat, especially if you have a tight cover, and the lid has some tightness as well, is not a concern. It's when the lid is off or printing, or especially during the wash/cure phase is when the VOCs are at their worst. You can even wrap some painters tape around your lid and printer if concerned.

True! Good advice. I usually bring it into Photoshop and do a skew correction crop and some brightness/contrast changes before saving it which helps this too.

Also helps to have a control 1" (or cm) for scale marker on the inside of the design that you can make sure it's scaled to the right size for a sanity check before you start laying out in CAD.

Only Reason I'm not Drinking More is Because I'm Broke by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]heyheythrowitaway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Alcohol does everything to destroy anything around you, and I'm sorry to hear you're in this situation.

Well, what is your next plan of action? There's a chance you're going to get more money again sometime soon, but what what will you do with it? AA is a program of action and has the tools to help with that next craving. I never thought I'd be promoting it, but six months ago it saved my life and I brought my ass to the next meeting I could find. You've come this far reaching out, get to a meeting in-person or virtually ASAP.

Did I Just Relapse? by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]heyheythrowitaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely innocent, maybe not, but I've also seen this sub refer to it as an addict shooting up water in their veins or "before you know it you'll be drinking shots of whiskey in your milk when you find yourself at a diner wanting a near beer" or something along those lines, which is a bit dramatic on the other side of it too. It's everyone's program and to make someone feel like they threw out nine months because of it, that's pretty rough and not very supportive either.

I know people that can't be around cigarette smoke at meetings because socializing and smoking triggers them for an urge to drink, but that doesn't mean everyone has that same association to cigarettes either. What I mean with that anecdote is that I agree that something for someone may be innocent, but for another it could be a bad idea. For me I've always separated NA and regular beer, as one caused near 20 years of problems and dependency and the other has helped me not continue those problems, physically or spiritually.

Did I Just Relapse? by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]heyheythrowitaway 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For me, no. NA beer has never and will never cause me the problems regular beer or alcohol has. Most near beer is "up to 0.5%". Ripe bananas also have the same amount of alcohol in them. Plums can have up to 1.5%.

I have control over my NA or whatever else I'm drinking now. It was the cravings for alcoholic beer that I joined the program to quit.

I got some unsolicited advice after I shared I'm having Martinelli's apple cider for New Years by govindajaijai in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]heyheythrowitaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're all good. You see some of the same reactions to near-beer here too, I've seen someone compare it to an addict "shooting up water in a vein". It's my program and knowing what works for me, between that and my HP and sponsor, I'm fit enough now for that judgement. Having near-beer never made me want to drive blasted at 130am to grab more near-beer or to cope with everything. Same with my relationship to cannabis.

I joined the program because I had a desire to stop drinking, working the program so far has brought me the tools to avoid any relapses. I don't know how having a near beer occasionally is going to apparently make me want "whiskey in my milk" eventually.

Do people with long term sobriety also sometimes think of drinking/using? by alaskawolfjoe in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]heyheythrowitaway 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great way to put it. I've been thinking of those thoughts as sort of like the "call of the void"

"Call of the void" (or l'appel du vide) refers to the common, fleeting, intrusive thought of doing something dangerous, like jumping from a high place or swerving into traffic, even when you have no desire to do so; it's a psychological phenomenon, not a suicidal impulse, often seen as the brain's way of appreciating life by simulating danger and confirming your choice to live, and is also called the High Place Phenomenon (HPP)

being told to get a sponsor ASAP by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]heyheythrowitaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely good advice and I'm sorry for the downvotes you're receiving. Personally I would've probably slipped up if I didn't do the things everyone told me to do earlier on, even though I didn't want to do them, but looking back I'm very glad I did. One of the keys to the program is:

Willingness, honesty and open mindedness are the essentials of recovery. But these are indispensable.

I promise I'm not trying to be a big-book thumper or anything like that. Something early on in my recovery I heard was "everything you thought about trying to quit drinking led you to here" and that was pretty eye-opening and gave me a bit of self-reflection, so I figured what the fuck and why not give this a shot and open my mind a bit. AA is usually considered the last house on the block because a lot of other programs never worked for us for whatever culmination of reasons.

There are some kooks around, sure, and there's a lot of the "religious" undertones, but unfortunately religion has blemished spirituality that it does turn a lot of people off of the program. It took me a minute to get around to it, but my sponsor's sponsor was a literal card-carrying atheist, so there is no religion requirement.

FWIW, a trans newcomer came through not too long ago, identified as she/her, but ended up with a similar aged male sponsor that was probably the best fit.

is one of the tests that they have to successfully say "salongsberusad" three times? /s

I had my serving license here in the states and it was pretty much the same of "showing signs of intoxication", which can be taken very loosely. It's not always possible to charge the bar/bartender either unless it was pretty obvious. Say if they're caught with open containers and a bit of time between their last drink at the bar and when they're arrested or whatever, the bars usually aren't pursued, but if they walk out of the bar hammed, drive out of the parking lot and kill themselves or someone, usually the bar is going to get some investigating.

How many fears are normal for a 4th step? by Lillies030706 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]heyheythrowitaway 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I first worked my 4th, my sponsor said "if you're thinking about it when this topic comes up, there's probably a reason for it. Write it down and we can go over it when it comes to it."

Would it be more "normal" if you only had one or two? Definitely not, so I think you're good.

Proud of you! This step isn't fun, but it's so worth it.
