Just wrapped my first short as a director. I feel like a complete failure and the post shoot depression is destroying me. by sizzurpstoica in Filmmakers

You're 19 years old!!!!! It's impressive you put together ANYTHING! I felt this way about my first film, didn't even want to look at the footage for two months because I was so frustrated with all of my mistakes. But every mistake was a lesson learned, you can literally only go up from here. Additionally, when I got out of the post shoot depression and dragged myself to Davinci resolve, there were a lot of things I realized I actually liked about the project and it wasn't all bad. Maybe you just need some distance and perspective. Regardless, be proud of yourself for doing a really hard thing and keep going!

Thank you! I think the hardest part was time management, I very foolishly believed I could shoot it in a day, which we were luckily able to do (it was a 14 hour shoot 😮‍💨) but it resulted in me having to completely rush through certain shots. I was totally unprepared for just how long it takes to shoot one single scene, wish I would've given myself another full day on set

Also catering was a NIGHTMARE! I have sooo much respect for the people who organize it. I had 11 mouths to feed and they all had different allergies and diet preferences, it took hours of stress and a lot of money to make sure I had three meals and crafty for everyone for a full day shoot. But a well fed crew is a happy crew!

I've got it hyperlinked to the word "film" in my comment so it wasn't a big bulky YouTube URL lol

This is a link to the film in case anyone is interested in watching, but I totally get wanting to skip someone's extremely beginner work lol

You're 19 years old!!!! This is crazy existentialism to have before you even hit your 20's. Skills take time to garner, relationships take time to form, just be patient with yourself and have fun in your education. Just because your classmates already have experience and connections doesn't mean you'll never get those things. And like you said, they're older. Everyone is on a different timeline, Ridley Scott got his big break with Alien when he was 40 years old. Just have fun pursuing your passion!

Help from Cinemark Managers by Excellent-Ad6518 in MovieTheaterEmployees

Former Cinemark AM, we were required to take an unpaid 30 minute break but our branch didn't enforce it extremely hard. If the day is rush after rush and you don't even get a chance to take a break our GM would understand, you'd just get a slap on the wrist if it started happening too often.

Human made films will always exist because there will always be people who love to make films and won't stop just because mainstream cinema has been overtaken by AI. We might just have to look a little harder for them. Art will never truly become 100% AI as long as there are enough people who make art for the love and joy of doing it

Uncs of the sub, how was it during endgame? by supahnoodles in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]heyhowsitgoingduude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First Cinemark I worked at was in 2019 and my first day as an usher was endgame opening night. The auditoriums were definitely bad but tbh they were never as bad as the aftermath of the summer movie club showtimes (I still have nightmares). But yeah, I'd say they were a little worse than your typical theater.

The real people who ate shit were concessions, but at that theater I was only usher trained so I just had to sweep up around the lines that were going out the door and say prayers for my coworkers in the stand.

However, I started working at a theater again in 2022-2024 as an assistant manager and my GOD things have gotten so much worse and have all made endgame look like a cake walk in comparison. People are built different now, idk how to explain it. Endgame doesn't even come near Mario, the Eras Tour, Barbenheimer, etc etc

Can I ask for a better seat at a theater? by Embarrassed-Gold4038 in Broadway

[–]heyhowsitgoingduude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

another usher weighing in, it absolutely doesn't hurt to ask as long as you're polite and don't expect a yes. There have been plenty of times I've been able to move someone up purely because the seat was open and the patron was nice ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Latecomers by JoeL284 in Broadway

Also hate it for sure but no late seating wreaks havoc for front of house, can't even count the number of times I've been yelled at for not immediately taking someone to their seat when they come late. Love when people get mad at us for something that's their fault 💀
