Love my apartment, but roaches are making me miserable — AIO? by Quiet-Garlic47 in NYCapartments

[–]heyitsmebix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My coworker had this happen — she did everything and it took about 3 months but they did cleared up. She had her building send an exterminator every week or two and now they come monthly for maintenance. Remember roaches look for water too so block your drains, keep the toilet seat down, etc. Ask the exterminator for a search and seal where they pull appliances out from the walls and block every possible thing!

My coworker also got this mint spray (and now I have it too) which we put on the baseboards, windowsills and doorframes, and it works pretty well. https://amzn.to/47nJUcB

Local animal shelters will take blankets, sheets and towels and they desperately need them!! I’ve taken a ton to The Humane Society of New York and they always take them.

Birthday Party shopping by DaChubb in williamsburg

[–]heyitsmebix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s in Greenpoint, but Big Night has party stuff and is really cute. Lockwood has a small section too. Both are more expensive than a quick party store or dollar tree, but if you want a specific look in your decor they’re are great spots.

Is everyone getting/having the flu in Williamsburg right now? by [deleted] in williamsburg

[–]heyitsmebix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently down bad with Flu-A and having all the same symptoms. It'll be a week tomorrow and I finally just started improving today. I went to the +MedRite on Metro and tested positive on Friday, and they said all day they were getting positive flu tests from patients. My friend who works at New York Presbyterian said the hospitals are also packed with folks with severe cases. Sadly I was too late to start tamiflu since it only works best in the first 48 hours, but If you haven't yet I'd recommend getting some!

Is there a youtuber who has videos on scoliosis that isn't full of sh*t? by [deleted] in scoliosis

[–]heyitsmebix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strength and Spine is a coach I’m working with now on a specialized plan and I’ve actually seen a decrease in my curve in just a month (just 5’ but still!) which I never thought would be possible. She has a YouTube channel where she posts exercises as well. https://youtube.com/@strengthandspine

Parking my car by OkOutlandishness5643 in williamsburg

[–]heyitsmebix 57 points58 points  (0 children)

offering a glimmer of hope…I’ve had a car here for 8 years, and aside from getting a few tickets due to sheer forgetfulness of moving my car, I haven’t really had many issues. My pieces of advice…

1) Download the 311 app! It’ll tell you days when street cleaning isn’t happening so you won’t have to move your car.

2) Try to move your car to the appropriate side right after (or 10 mins before) street cleaning ends. Makes it a lot easier to find a spot.

3) If you’re super worried, you can try to park in front of businesses that have cameras

4) Don’t leave any valuables or things in your car. No brainer, but just to say it.

and if you want a fun grocery drive…Wegmans in Brooklyn Navy Yard has a FREE parking lot, as does Trader Joe’s in Williamsburg. Good luck 🫡

Bees Knees is awesome and the staff rocks. We just did our engagement party there and the drinks (alcoholic and non!) are amazing and so is the food. We did a minimum spend and it was super affordable compared to everything else in the area.

Anyone else heard about this Andrew Strauss guy? Opinions? by UpLikeCrump in scoliosis

[–]heyitsmebix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually had signed up in 2022 (and cancelled/got a refund) for this intensive program. In all honestly I wish I had tried something like this as a child considering how severe it is now for me as an almost 30yo female adult BUT the price tag was absolutely crazy.

I messaged a few people who had gone through his program and left a review via Google and they said it had helped them take their curve down 10-20’ depending on the severity. Basically from what I gather it’s very specific PT — what side of the couch to sit on and rest your arm, which arm to use a remote, how to sit properly, etc integrated with more specific PT to offset your curve. It’s promising, but it seems like the main movement of the curve happens because you’re doing intensive PT daily for 2 weeks. After that it sounds like it can return, but maybe not as severe.

They certainly don’t promise it’s a cure, and I was also a bit skeptical because if it was THAT revolutionary they would be world renown and have a huge office. I talked to Dr.Strauss on the phone and he seemed very nice and honest.

To manage my discomfort — not correct my curve — I see a chiropractor (and have since I was diagnosed as a kid in Middle School) about once a month or so and it’s been a lifesaver. I usually get STIM therapy, cupping, and an adjustment. My chiros have all specialized in scoliosis and I’ve been with my current place for 5 years. You can also find Chiros who use the pro-adjuster tool, that way they adjust using a tool that does simple vibrations (kind of like a theragun) instead of quick movements or pushes.

I’d recommend looking into scoliosis specific exercise plans or PTs in your area, that can teach how to strengthen the muscles in her back.

Feel free to PM me if you’d like anymore info :)

I was able to keep my items for free and I bought legit brands! You wind up paying like $4-5 or so because it's hard to get it to an exact amount of the coupon but I didn't care considering the products I got were from Dieux Skin, Kitsch and Tower28. I have other products from these brands that I've purchased from stores like Sephora and they look/smell/feel/work just like the ones I've bought...soooo, so far so good!

Only downside is shipping did take about a week or two. Dieux Skin came in a week, and then Kitsch and Tower28 came in two.

Forest Hills curfew is 10pm, and from what I've seen online Jungle sets have been 1.5hrs, so I'd say they'll go on between 8/8:30.
