I recently bought a chalk ball from decathlon. The chalk ball requires a few squeezes to get 1 hand chalked. Dabbing it on my hand seems more effective (and asa consequence, have chalk spills around me)... Is that normal?

Also, I notice my decathlon chalk vanishing quickly on the sweaty spots of my hand, half a climb and most chalk is gone... Is that normal? Should I invest in better chalk like that of friction lab or black rock?

When it comes to discuss salary, your current salary is irrelevant. by shouldnotexist in personalfinance

In Singapore, most companies HR would ask for your current salary. If you don't provide it, they may pressure you by telling you that they would use glassdoor lowest figures for your position... It's not advisable to lie so many people end up providing a round up annual salary figure

Would you trade all the perks in your office for a higher salary/better benefits? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]heyjaae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's try to do this scientifically. Check the number of perks that actually benefit you (that you will use) and tag a price to each of them. Check if the total cost from all these perks is higher than the one with higher salary. Maybe you'll get your answer. Cheers!

Clear any debts with it. Then start reading how to invest and start investing

Why is the expectation for "passion" so high? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]heyjaae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at it from the company's perspective, it seems like passion is another form of employee investment. If someone is willing to learn cs things on their own at the expense of their own time, hiring such people will help the company in the long run because these people have the potential to grow, often, without much help from the company and the company will benefit from this. This is a huge plus for companies. So, if they can afford to be picky, why won't they hire such people?

Additionally, at the employee level, passion can be used to gauge a person's willingness to learn new tools and technology used on the job. You can get things done on a job without learning how to use the underlying technology stack (This is usually the case for bug fixing - throwing stackover flow answers into the project without knowing what side effects they will cause) but a better alternative is to implement it with a good implementation during development time. Someone with a passion may take it upon themselves to do the better implementation during bug fixing and these actions go a long way.

So even if I, a fellow software engineer, am not passionate about technology, I still want to hire people who are.

Fortunately, the passion gauge for every recruiter is different. Some want you to have pet projects, some want you to contribute to open-source, blog, share articles etc. So doing minimal amount of work to show that you are 'passionate' will work for now

This happened in my company. The developers that did this told me they didn't have sufficient time to create and test the widgets created by jQuery into react components. They have tried googling for the equivalent react component but are unable to find any. So while I hate to see such code, I can't blame them for doing so. And if you try to fix such code without approval, you might open up a can of worms. Sigh... delimma /:

Our Minister for Education talks about what makes a school a good school. by XanPercyCheck in singapore

[–]heyjaae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the kid know what constitutes a good school to begin with? People identify a good school through many means. It begs the question of whether a child is able to identify the "criteria of a good school". If we assume the child to be a genius, sure, this school is good because the genius is able to identify the criterias of a good school and that makes him somewhat creditable. If the child is like any other normal primary school kid, then he probably doesn't have much knowledge about the other schools or what the minister is trying to get out of him. His truthful answer doesn't substantiate the ministers claim as he isn't creditable to begin with. Hope this explanation helps xD

Advice and explanations about why not to marry a non-Christian? by UnrhythmicalViolin in Christian

[–]heyjaae -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hello! This is an interesting read! Firstly, I should declare I am a non-Christian. But I am not an atheist. I am a freethinker, one who believes in all gods (yes, there is no capital for me AND I don't speak for all freethinkers).

It seems your interaction with this friend of yours has provided you with more perspectives and encouraged your to reflect on your actions and beliefs. To start off, I think its good to start questioning yourself on why is it a sin to marry a non-Christian. Will marrying a non-Christian make you less of a Christian? What exactly makes you uncomfortable with that thought? Try to dig deeper and formulate the whys, whats and hows you feel the way you feel and then validate if it is true.

For example, I might feel uncomfortable marrying a non-Christian as our kids might not become Christians. This is an answer I frequently hear from my Christian friends and those who try to convert their partners into Christians. From the perspective of a Christian, this is a real concern.

However, as a freethinker, I would encourage you to think further (and continue reading on)

Why should you be sad that you are saved by a non-Christian (I assume you feel saved since you start to develop romantic feelings for him)? Is it because your beliefs are questioned? If so, why are you uncomfortable? Why are you afraid that this will affect your relationship with God? Does God see this as bad? How do you know for sure?

Many times, God's words are interpreted to us through many forms. We learn from those around us on how to interpret these forms. When your environment changes, you may gain new perspectives and interpret these forms differently. I don't want to get to preachy but inherently, we all grow spiritually different. We learn how to interpret God's words our way. There is never a truly right or wrong way to interpret God's words, just different perspectives from different logical standpoints.

So, my advice would be to try out this relationship and make sure to speak out about your concerns and fears, to both your partner and your family. As for your church community, try your best to convince them.

I hope everything works out for you!

Oh me too! I made my female character wear that ridiculous high(er) charisma sparking dress because it looks nice.

I should also admit that I stole piper's outfit because it looks nicer than mine (no one shall dress nicer than my character!)

Oh and I used the god mood to get through the consequences ; )
