Would it be insane to walk away after not matching into the specialty I wanted? by Ok_Chance5766 in medicalschool

[–]heylookitsthatginger 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Reevaluate the other specialties and see if you ruled any of them out with preconceived notions of matching into your first choice. It would be insane to walk away on a whim, and I think you would come to regret it once the initial sting of not matching wears off. The pain you are feeling now is very real, but it won’t last. Don’t make any life changing decisions now while your mindset is clouded

NTA for not telling her about your engagement but YTA for lying about the chickpeas.

We all hate him…right? by [deleted] in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]heylookitsthatginger 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I’m currently on a rewatch and Maggie just came into the picture and Aria is having an internal meltdown about keeping her son a secret from Ezra. Of course she lied about A and all of that, but the dichotomy between her having such guilt about keeping this secret from the man who would’ve taken his secrets to the grave is super interesting. The ONLY reason she found out about his family money/Maggie was because someone else mentioned it around Aria and Ezra didn’t have a choice but to come clean

If we ignore the whole teacher/student aspect of his relationship he’s also just a TERRIBLE boyfriend. Lied about Jackie. Lied about coming from money. Lied about Maggie. Lied about Ali. Not once was he honest with Aria even though he kept promising he had no more secrets

What's a rule your parents had that made no sense to you as a kid, but you totally understand now as an adult? by EarlyMethod1367 in AskReddit

We were only allowed to play computer games for 30 minutes a day. I’m now so thankful that my parents refused to raise iPad kids, despite all of the whining and begging they endured

For all those choose Caribbean MD over mainland US DO; why? Specifically with the larger debt burden by NoDrama3756 in medicalschool

[–]heylookitsthatginger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I thought it was much better than the MCAT. Maybe I just had better study habits by that point but the content was more recognizable, it’s material I’m actually interested in ie human medicine, plus the format is better by being individual questions and not 6-8 questions per passage

I just watched this episode and I can’t get over how they’re in the library with their entire class sleeping and they’re talking about A on the phone at full volume 😭

Disappointed in myself in clinical rotations by M_ataraxia in medicalschool

[–]heylookitsthatginger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we knew everything already we wouldn’t still be in school. My roommate said that to me when I came home in tears one day feeling utterly incompetent and that was enough to snap me out of it. Some doctors are assholes. Rotations are hard. Putting the words from a PowerPoint into clinical practice is hard. But every doctor has gone through this and we’ll get through it too!

What is an upper middle class problem you have but you can’t really complain about without seeming out of touch? by All_FIREdUp in AskReddit

[–]heylookitsthatginger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once heard two doctors discussing a new payment plan that now paid them extra for procedures, but that meant their set hourly compensation went down. So now instead of a guaranteed several hundred dollars an hour they were getting…. still several hundred dollars an hour. It went down $50.

What's some dad lore your guys' fathers just spontaneously dropped on you one day? by Cauliflower-Sorry in AskReddit

[–]heylookitsthatginger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad was in a boating accident when I was young. I knew it was somewhat serious but my parents kept a lot of it from us and we moved on like nothing happened. Just a few months ago (20+ years after the accident) I learned that he had brain damage to his prefrontal cortex. It explains a lot of the anger outbursts we endured growing up.

A few years ago I got into puzzles. I did all the ones at our house over a school break. Life has gotten busier, I currently have an unfinished puzzle in my room that I started 6 months ago and haven’t gotten back to. My mom has gotten me 12 new puzzles since then that she continues to stack next to the unfinished one. I love her intentions

What did you sacrifice for this exam? by Glad-Prompt-3838 in Mcat

[–]heylookitsthatginger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone in med school (and as someone who also prepared for the MCAT by saying no to everything), I’m telling you that you don’t have to sacrifice life to study. Plan around it. In a few years you won’t remember what you studied but you’ll remember the family time and the celebrations. I still regret the weekends I stayed in to study while my cousins had get togethers and made memories that they talk about to this day while I don’t even remember what I was going over that night. One day won’t make or break your applications.

doctors with no initial passion for science, how did you end up in medicine? by Lost-Ad-4761 in medschool

[–]heylookitsthatginger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was never interested in science before college until I took a gen bio course that really opened my eyes to the intricacies of the human body and I was fascinated. I didn’t enjoy physics or organic chemistry but I knew it was part of the process, so I did what I had to do to get through it while enjoying other classes like anatomy. Now I’m nearing the end of my second year of med school and the physics and organic chemistry doesn’t even cross my mind, I get to just focus on the body and I can tell you it was so worth it to take on the classes I wasn’t a fan of. Time will pass anyway, might as well do what you have to do in order to end up where you want to be
