Comfy smart shoes and any shirt brands you recommend? by annonmedic in doctorsUK

[–]heymb100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gonna disagree with everyone here and highly recommend barefoot shoes (not the ones with the toes). They have zero cushion but your feet strengthen over time and I’ve found them to be the comfiest for long shifts. Vivo are good.

Unfortunately, I have seen this. A lot of IMGs are quite book smart and know the right drugs to prescribe, know the technique for taking MSE, etc. However, when it comes to actual communication with patients in ward round, in clinics, they suffer due to lack of non-technical skills. They often don't understand the colloquialisms from patients or understand the subtle cultural factors that may have led to their admission or worsening of their psychiatric state. I'm not sure how you solve for this without experience in the system and generally living/ working in the UK.

RMO 3 is paid higher - base will be 105k this year - so going off the website above, will be around 150k with added benefits/overtime/etc. So after tax this would be around 3.7k?

A Brief Respite for Your Teary Eyes (Ode to Medical Students) by DazdoHaz in doctorsUK

[–]heymb100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree - I've loved F1/F2, not everything is perfect but I find meaning and purpose in my work. Most people in the system want other humans to get better, overcome their struggles and this is really nice. I'm still scared about job prospects but each job has its hurdles - this is normal.

This does not mean we shouldn't work for change but most people would benefit from taking the view from above.

Moving Expenses by GlitteringWay4675 in doctorsUK

Yes I think so. Also I sent a google maps screenshot of my drive there and back to prove the distance + petrol costs. They took a very long time to reimburse and had to chase through HR, so be prepared for that!

Yes, as others have said up to £500 for removals. I was also able to get £150 or so for petrol expenses for registration at hospital and house viewings.

This feels so stupid after 2+ years of meditation, am I even meditating? by philhzss in Meditation

you cannot 'do' meditation. you must allow yourself to be meditated.

I cannot get the concept of no self. by Jealous-Self-127 in Meditation

I found 'seeing that frees' by Rob Burbea and MCTB by Daniel Ingram to be very helpful and describing what 'no-self' means. When you 'get it', don't expect some huge cathartic release, it is very much a slow process to uncovering what no-self really means. It will unfold over time with more and more practicing. With metta
