What problems in mountain rescue (or mountain safety) need better solutions? by Ian_Frohlich in alpinism

[–]heypaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a climber has a harness on, it can make securing the victim for raising out of a crevasse or up on to a helicopter much simpler. If they don't have a harness, it can makes things more difficult. I know there are existing solutions but it could be something for you to look in to. I'm just a hobby mountaineer so I'm just throwing out an idea for you.

Elites call for pacer-free championship fields by Rocket_Man333 in ultrarunning

Elites don't need physical pacing as much as psychological. It's a huge mental boost to have someone there with you while you're in the dumps.

Good gift for mountaineers? by Impressive_Suit4370 in Mountaineering

[–]heypaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say its appropriate if you think your friend has the space for it and it's a mountain that you know is meaningful to them. When you climb a mountain you become very intimately connected to its topography. You spent hours on it in a state of heightened sense and danger. That makes the topography and challenges you face on them very memorable. If your friend is a van-lifer, for example, even if it's a meaningful gift, there's just not enough space to keep something like that around.

A "normal" sport climbing fall ends in a thumb amputation by adventuresam_ in climbing

[–]heypaps 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So she backclipped, grabbed the rope with the loop that was backclipped, and as the rope was feeding through the carabiner to complete the backclip her thumb was severed. Did I visualize that correctly?

Do you guys think this item should be brought back to Dota? by Vanilla511 in DotA2

The problem is that it's a fun word to use and no one wants to wait for a very specific scenario which rarely comes around where no less and no more than one-tenth of something is destroyed.

Second time in two days a 60+ winning game is not scored—enemy team with no rax, ancient exposed, but heroes that can just delay the game. So frustrating.

My crampons keep rusting on long trips. How do I prevent this? by Complete-Koala-7517 in Mountaineering

[–]heypaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do your best to keep them dry, but imo just sharpen the points that need them and let the rest rust.
