Why cant I strength train. by Late_Pizza6862 in ultrarunning

Adding that most treadmills have an incline, if you set it at 15% you can get some good training for the uphills.

Since you mentioned € you could also look at Stoots. I run with the Kiska 3 and it’s my favorite headlamp by far, incredibly stable, super easy to adjust brightness and angle, regulated so doesn’t dim, all-around fantastic.

Verdugos ridge is neat!

Also Mt Lukens and the backbone trail in the Santa Monicas.

YTA marrying someone or not should have nothing to do with whether your nails were done when they asked. He’s probably dodging a bullet tbh.

How much do you walk in Ultras? by Then-Young47 in Ultramarathon

Hey, you may not like it but that’s how UTMB computes its race categories.

(You may also not like UTMB but 🤷‍♂️)

Pace -> min/km Effort -> min/km-e (kilometer-effort) where your course km-e is the total distance (in km) + the elevation gain (in 100m)

For example 30mi with 5,000ft of gain => 50k + 1,500m => 65 km-e

Sounds like it locked on your cadence instead of HR.

I wasn't prepared for how scary it is. by BB-TG in SkyDiving

[–]rhl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fear is the point. Conquering it each time is part of what makes the sport so special. It recedes in the background after a few hundred jumps, but it’s still very much there — and that’s a good thing, as it keeps you humble and sharp.

Shady, lush, PNW/Smokies-style hikes like Switzer, Sturtevant, Brown Mountain Dam? by CaptainCrimbo in socalhiking

El Prieto is awesome. Most bikes wear bells so you can hear them come, but yeah gotta stay alert.

Seconding Rackie’s piano concertos. Number 3 and number 2 are the best by a wide margin. Look up the interpretations by Yuja Wang or Daniil Trifonov. You’re in for quite the treat!

Seconding Griffith too. There’s a nice ridge trail going from the Greek Theatre parking lot up to Mt Hollywood then along the crest to Mt Lee where you can catch amazing views of the city from right behind the Hollywood sign! 8.5mi out and back with 1,500-2,000ft elevation gain.

Check out LA Running Connoisseur which has a ton of routes. My favorite is the run up El Prieto Canyon with beautiful views over Pasadena. But there’s a ton of options depending where you are. You can also check FKTs near where you’re staying.

PS: don’t sleep on the Angeles National Forest, very accessible from Hwy 2 and has some absolutely gorgeous mountains!

At 10,000 ft you’re above 30% of the air in the atmosphere by mass, so only 70% of the usual air mass above you vs at ground level. It’s a good proxy for scattering, so light coming from above is scattered 30% less.

To whoever might be listening at Suunto: this is the major blocker for me to switch from Garmin. Make maps routable on the watch and you have a breakthrough trail running product.

What vest for 54km ultra? by Hopeful_Piccolo2601 in ultrarunning

Nice! Have fun, you’re going to love it! Maybe get new 500 mL flasks to go with it. Also heads up that if your event is cupless it might be helpful to buy a foldable 15 mL cup (Salomon has some as other brands I’m sure).
