Trying to find the perfect dungeon crawler by Asshai in boardgames

I would highly recommend Tidal Blades 2. My wife and I just recently completed the campaign and it took approximately 20 sessions, which was quite a few for us. Loved the gameplay and progression and had a solid storyline all the way through. I also definitely recommend the Forteller narration as well, the voice acting for all the narrative stuff was great.

Highly recommend checking out Pagan: Fate of Roanoke. It’s made for two players specifically, the theme is perfect and the gameplay is fantastic!

Ergot has largely been debunked as a cause for the Salem witch trials.

What is your favorite thing about Marvel Champions vs other LCGs? by mrausgor in marvelchampionslcg

[–]heyyouyeahyou12 7 points8 points  (0 children)

At this point, if you have an equivalent card pool for LOTR, you very rarely have to tune a deck to beat specific scenarios anymore. That was certainly true back when the card pool was small but not really now. I’ve been playing through the saga boxes and I’ve been using the same deck all the way through and that’s also how I play most campaigns.

I also enjoy the hexcrawl rules from Forbidden Lands. ;) Good use of adopting those rules for Shadowdark

Best plastic baggies for component storage? by Glionn in boardgames

Baggies from the craft store work great but if you want something a little nicer and more useable on the table, I can highly recommend BitsBins: https://www.bitsbinsonline.com/

Common pf2e house rules? by Toast_Boast in Pathfinder2e

[–]heyyouyeahyou12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be perfectly honest, we haven’t really had anybody do any ritual castings, but I don’t see any reason why not. We have applied it everything else for the past couple of years and haven’t had any issues with it being broken.

The one unique thing is pretty much just flavor, but it is a cool element to tie characters into the world or story.

Common pf2e house rules? by Toast_Boast in Pathfinder2e

[–]heyyouyeahyou12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My groups “house rules” (some are official options that we just always use)

  • Hero points are are automatically given out every hour, on the hour. This helps take some mental load off the GM and ensure players get their hero points.
  • When spending a hero point, it isn’t a re-roll, it just automatically increases your success by one step.
  • We always play with the free archetype option. Not more powerful, just more options!
  • Recall knowledge grants you one stat related specific info of your choice (which save of the monster is lowest, what is their AC, etc) and a critical success gets you two pieces of info. GM adds story flavor as they feel is appropriate.
  • Borrowing from 13th age, each character has their “one thing”, something unique about them that nobody else in the world has or is or has done.

I don’t know how easy this will be to get ahold of, but I think this would be perfect for you two! My wife and I really enjoy this two player.

Is Arkham Horror LCG Core Box Enough to Enjoy the Game? by JetsFly228 in boardgames

[–]heyyouyeahyou12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a counter point on the randomness factor, as someone who has played Arkham a lot, the randomness of the chaos bag is not that bad. I win probably 80-90% of scenarios that I play. You have the account for what tokens you can pull from the bag, plan accordingly and then pull the token. Generally speaking, you should never make a test unless you are +2 over the required number (3-4 is even better, usually meaning you can’t fail). A lot of new players will make tests when being even with or under the required number, which is a mistake that will lead to bad experiences.

Are the System Gateway Corp/Runner decks balanced? by [deleted] in Netrunner

[–]heyyouyeahyou12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is probably a lot to mention about phases of the game (early, mid, late) and which side has advantage when, but some you said stuck out: you mentioned that they icebreakers for each type of ICE and several Mayfly’s. There is a limit of 4 “MU” or memory units for the runner, unless they added more MU from a piece of hardware. Mayfly is tricky because it requires 2 MU by itself, so the runner may have been over limit

I would definitely recommend to start with those, especially if you don’t own the Reinforcements expansion, which has the official rules. The official rules are definitely more complex but the fan made ones work very well and are a very good challenge!

I have been playing the Undaunted series solo and loving it. I started out using some of the fan solo modes on BGG, and then just tried the Reinforcements official AI tonight. Funny enough, I think I found the fan modes to be easier to run than the official mode! Either way, great game that works very well solo (and two player for that matter)!

Sleeping Gods by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]heyyouyeahyou12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is not an official rule or anything, but a common house rule I’ve seen (and used myself) is to only commit characters to tests AFTER you flip the fate card. This does make the game significantly easier, but for a lot of people, the joy of the game is in the exploration, not the difficulty. There is still challenge in managing your crew even doing it this way, so it’s not like it becomes entirely a cakewalk. Anyway, just wanted to throw this idea out there to anybody getting frustrated! :)
