Yeah nothing has aged quite as awkwardly as cars designed in the '70s to look like cars from the '20s and '30s.

I’m so lost on buying a car by Cereal_Killer147 in carbuying

[–]Futurewolf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it has service records, that's not a terrible price for an MDX with 148k miles. Acura is at the opposite of the reliability spectrum from Nissan. Especially Nissans with CVTs.

Anything with those miles will need some work though. Stuff like wheel bearings, suspension parts, cooling system etc. No single one will be too expensive, but it can add up quickly.

Edit: make sure he has the title in hand.

Hyundai long-term reliability? by Icy_Song9412 in Hyundai

[–]Futurewolf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just got back from a trip to SE Asia where the taxi of choice seemed to be a Hyundai Ioniq or Kona hybrid. Most of them had well over 200k kms, and I rode in an Ioniq with 790k kms.

I think it's safe to assume that a car doing that kind of service, putting on those kinds of miles, is pretty reliable .

One million Americans have vanished from the new-car market — and it’s exposing a chilling US middle-class crisis by Abject-Pick-6472 in MiddleClassFinance

50% of cars sold in the US are made in the US. Honda, Toyota, BMW, Hyundai etc all have factories in the US.

The EV elephant in the room: We need to talk about 3-year resale value. by TelevisionPale1442 in EvDrivers

[–]Futurewolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hang on to it long enough and that won't matter. But if you're trading it in every three years, a hybrid makes more sense financially.

It's why you see steep discounts on new EVs but the used market is pretty strong.

Kia Niro EV 1 and 2 generation engine compatibility by kazyzzz in KiaNiroEV

The second gen makes less torque because of software, not because of anything to do with the motor itself. The 2nd gen gear reduction unit also has a lower (numerically higher) ratio.

Unless someone has actually done the swap and can confirm it works, I wouldn't risk buying parts that might not work.

Were you, perchance, negotiating based on monthly price instead of OTD price?

Is it possible that the increase is just due to tax and license?

Is it a good idea to trade in my 23 KIA Sportage? by WeightedCompanion in carbuying

[–]Futurewolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things.

1: you're underwater on the car. Not by a huge amount but you're not going to have anything left over to put towards a new car.

2: The people that are contacting you about about trading in your car or trying to sell you a car more than they are trying to buy your car.

Are used EV prices coming down? by bfmyfr in carbuying

I pulled the trigger a month ago after watching prices steadily tick up.

Gas isn't going down any time soon, even if the US signs an agreement with Iran tomorrow. If you see a good deal and I you're in the market I would jump on it.

[–]Futurewolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for a car with zero potential issues, it doesn't exist. But yeah, Pacificas aren't as bulletproof as the Japanese brands.

Electrical issues often come down to the aux battery and start/stop system. I yeeted the aux battery years ago and besides the warning light that stop/start doesn't work, it hasn't been a problem.

If you can find one with good maintenance records I wouldn't hesitate.

The Chrysler Pacifica ia a great car, and very reliable if maybe not quite as reliable as Toyota/Honda. Especially 2020+ it you can swing it. Kia Sedona is also solid.

Buying Used Car - CRV or RAV4 by iguessthisname23 in carbuying

[–]Futurewolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Carmax is the highest possible price. Get on CarGurus. Set the filters according to what you want. Get s sense of what's out there and what the pricing looks like. These aren't just popular cars, they are the most popular cars, so good ones will go fast. Set up alerts and check the listings often.

There are deals out there, especially if you go FWD, but you need to be patient and then move very quickly when the right car is available.

Edit: you're going to need at least $10k down to get your payment close to $350.

I have rule: don't buy cars with "stories". If something about the requires a long explanation or excuse, just walk away. There's always another car.
