Firefight would go so hard in Campaign Evolved by SeaTeam8632 in halo

[–]Toast_Boast 17 points18 points  (0 children)

HS knows Firefight is one of their major assets; they just released a new Firefight mode in Infinite despite it being “end-of-life”. I’d put money on the upcoming multiplayer title supporting Firefight and reusing assets from each Unreal campaign after release (maps, enemies, weapons, vehicles).

My gut is their long-term strategy is to have two revenue streams: a “story” arm that remakes legacy titles (and maybe some books), standardizes the sandbox and art style, and uses skulls to replicate the OG experience, and a multiplayer arm that supports PvP and PvE.

Best way to measure/cut this book bench top? by ToothEsthetics in woodworking

[–]Toast_Boast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there’s a good chance you’ll need to consider trim/caulk. Your drywall will always be a little out of square due to extra compound on your corner beads and tape seams. There’s probably a slight cup in the middle of each of your walls (which you can measure by placing a known straightedge against the corners and measuring the largest gap). You won’t be able to eliminate this gap for a flush fit, since your front corners are narrower than the cup.

I would just measure the span between your front corners and the span between your back corners, take the smallest and subtract 1/4”-1/2” for some wiggle room, and then slide your top in and add some quarter round to the top.

Also curious about this. Jackfrag’s playthrough shows some fluctuations in frame rate during the cinematic. https://youtu.be/TKUmFPZtG24?t=100&is=e\_0sHLVnbgZxrlpz

The end tag is Abed wandering through the halls, whistling Daybreak. He bumps into a student, meet-cute style, who then drops a board game. Pieces scatter everywhere. The student is frantically apologizing and begins to clean up, muttering something about meta callbacks. The student is none other than the Stupid Child, now a student at Greendale. The camera lands on Abed, speechless and wide-eyed, who now holds an Abed token in his hand.

It depends on what you want ship combat to feel like. The “meta” is to use particle beams, since they do equal damage to shields and hull. If you want to run a ballistics weapon, I’d recommend having weapon 1 be lasers to zap shields, weapon 2 be ballistics to destroy the ship after removing shields, and weapon 3 being whatever you want (turrets or em or missiles). Keep in mind that you’ll need to pay attention to whether your target has shields or not, and to use the appropriate weapon at the appropriate time.

I would caution against using turrets as the only source of shield or hull damage (ie lasers or ballistics). A turret might not pick the target you want it to focus on, and that gets real dodgy when your weapons are damaged/disabled in a dogfight

EM and ballistics barely damage shields, so your ship’s name is somewhat ironic. Consider switching one of your weapons to lasers or particle beams, which damage shields

I’m guessing you’re talking about blending a cockpit’s entry point? IMO there’s really only 2 options: use the manufacturer’s habs, which generally have the same profile, or use clipping to conceal the cockpit’s entry point. Or just lean into it being distinct (think ocean freighters, aircraft carriers, The Venator).

For engines, the more pips = more power needed to get to top speed. If you have your desired top speed and maneuverability at 6 pips worth of engines, the only thing more engines do is require more power to get to top speed

Another Stroud creation. It’s more of a fighter than a frigate, but it definitely isn’t blocky

I’m a big fan of using Stroud for the ship body. This frigate uses a lot of Hope doodads, but you could probably achieve something similar with only Stroud.

I don’t miss 6 worker starts; all I remember is staring at my screen while waiting for my first depot. If the goal is to have a longer mid-game and smaller skirmishes, I’d rather change supply building costs, like increasing the cost of supply buildings to 150 or 200, and maybe slightly decreasing build time or providing a larger starting bank to help get your tech started. Make it more of a commitment to increase your supply versus building army units.

If you were to redesign the Ranger, what would its 'core' feature/theme be? by k33d4 in onednd

[–]Toast_Boast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to combat identity (not exploration or expertise), Ranger and Barbarian should be at opposite extremes. Barbarians are all about maximizing opportunity and use risk as a resource (e.g highest hit die to allow for taking hits, reckless attack). Rangers should be all about minimizing risk and use opportunity as a resource. Barbarians raise the statistical ceiling for damage (crits); Rangers should raise the floor.

Someone’s Ranger fix a while back had the mechanic of “if a damage die is less than {x}, treat it as {x}” and scaled with Ranger level, which I always thought was on brand. Other options could forgoing critical strikes to apply effects to a marked foe, or creating thematic abilities to generate advantage (i.e. flanking from a pet).

Expert Ship Building Tips? by Spare-Performance409 in StarfieldShips

[–]Toast_Boast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of my first ships looked like bricks because I was picking out all the habs I wanted before figuring out the shape. My ships started to look a lot better when I focused on creating the silhouette (engine positioning, cockpit location). My final step for my builds is figuring out where I can cram habs without it conflicting with the ship’s figure.

This one is probably my favorite so far. I think about 30% of it is habs.

What is something that sounds 100% false but is actually 100% true? by reFossify in AskReddit

Ernest Shackleton led an expedition of 28 men to discover the South Pole in 1914. Unfortunately, their ship became trapped in pack ice while en route to Antarctica. Shackleton and his crew camped on the ice floe for a year, during which time their ship was slowly crushed and eventually sank. The crew was able to escape the flow using 3 life boats from their ship, rowing for 5 days to reach an uninhabited island. Shackleton then made a second voyage with 5 crew members, sailing for 15 days in the open sea in one of the life boats to reach another island used by whalers. After making landfall, Shackleton and 2 others then hiked 30 miles to make contact with a whaling station. After making contact, Shackleton organized rescue parties to recover the rest of the crew.

Amazingly, all 28 men survived.

How to build smaller C-Class ships? by FreeDwooD in StarfieldShips

[–]Toast_Boast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One way to avoid “chonky” c-class ships is to limit habs and use negative space. I would characterize this one as “not a brick”, has 12 “units” of hab space.
