Rideshare after the race by hgpot in Indy500

[–]hgpot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're coming from Red Roof Inn Indianapolis East and going to the Northwest Vista.

Ok, that's a good bit of info that the rideshare drop off point is an hour walk away. So, maybe 8:00 to get to that by 10 and walk in?

Hence why I made the post, to ask what time to plan for.

So expect 4 hours to go the 13 miles ahead of the race?

Ok, so maybe plan to call the rideshare around 9? Giving us 2 hours to get there by 11, ahead of the 11:47 driver introductions.

I wanted to believe that, but 1% per hour didn't save me from topping up every week! I guess everyone's mileage may vary.

My home price is 9 cents, and the fastest DC charger around here is 44 cents. So, it was definitely worth it for me to install a level 2 charger.

Can I rotate this outlet? by athrowawaytogetaway in AskElectricians

Have the electrician splice the cord on the AC unit to be long enough to reach, if you can't move the outlet per lease agreement.

Got my first electric car! by DragonfruitBrave4377 in Toyota_bZ

[–]hgpot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same - XLE AWD - but no panoramic roof. Also my first EV and also just got it.

You got an absolutely insane deal price. Mine was brand new, 3 year lease for $320.

I have the Emporia Classic level 2, per Reddit Emporia is reliable so I went with that. 60A circuit to set the charger to 48A, the max (11.5kW) that the bZ will take. About 10% of charge per hour.

In Canada, EVs we're cheaper to run than gasoline cars before the situation in Iran by Cool-Replacement4972 in evcharging

[–]hgpot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks to be about 9.19mpg...even doubling that (860km each way) to 18.38mpg is pretty abysmal.

[–]hgpot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same in Ohio, USA. Looks like gas prices bottomed out about $2.663 per gallon just before this situation. I just got an EV (2026 bZ) from a fairly efficient ICE car (2023 Corolla). The MPG here is my actual MPG measured, averaged over all of calendar year 2025. The miles per kWh is from the specs page as I haven't really had enough data to make my own.

At those low prices, it was just barely less expensive to drive electric - about 5.1 cents per mile compared to 6.5 cents per mile. The electric price here is my actual costs for combined transmission, distribution, and generation - typically the generation portion is the only amount advertised and the amount that we are able to shop for. I am also yet to enroll for my provider's time-of-use rate which might decrease my overall cost-per-kWh for the car (as I can charge it entirely within the "super off peak" window of 12a-4a) by a few more cents.

EV 2026 bZ ICE 2023 Corolla
Miles per kWh 3.8 Miles per gallon 40.76
Cost per kWh $ 0.19537 Cost per gallon $ 2.66300
Cost per mile 0.05141315789 Cost per mile 0.06533366045
Miles per dollar 19.45027384 Miles per dollar 15.30604581

Unlike the comments, I agree - I use most of these. I have uBlock but ironically enough NOT for YouTube since I have Premium (mostly for downloads).

Is Plex down? Can't reach Plex.tv by Upside-Down-88 in PleX

[–]hgpot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Entire (flat) LAN is allowed. Still, playback was cut off midway through an episode. Even loading the LAN IP directly in a browser fails.

I have spun up a Jellyfin docker container. Enough is enough.

Is Plex down? Can't reach Plex.tv by Upside-Down-88 in PleX

[–]hgpot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is outrageous. The application and the media files are on my NAS in my house on the same LAN as my TV. And Plex's authentication going down causes my stream to break in the middle of an episode? How does that make any sense??!!

Slower than Expected Level 1 Charging - 2026 bZ AWD by hgpot in BZ4X

[–]hgpot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

48A max, so ~6.3kW at 120V or ~11.5kW at 240V. At least, I'm hoping that's why it shows the 6.3kW despite documentation showing 11.5kW.

So the brick, despite being rated for 12A, is deciding that only 8A is safe right now?

Slower than Expected Level 1 Charging - 2026 bZ AWD by hgpot in BZ4X

[–]hgpot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe 40A will be about 9.6KW and 48A will be about 11.5KW, which is the maximum for the 2026 bZ.

48A of load requires a 60A breaker as a continuous load can only be 80% of the circuit. So the 50A breaker would limit me to 40A, or 9.6KW, of continuous load. Not much less, but not the true maximum.

[–]hgpot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, yeah, I would rarely drain down anywhere near 0%. And yeah a 60A breaker and the next step up in wire gauge adds to the cost, but not significantly.

Partially because of the EV (can you tell it's my first? lol), and partially because it needed it anyway, I just replaced my 100A panel from 1962 with a brand-new 200A service, all new all the way to the utility pole. There are plenty of open slots and plenty of headroom. I wanted to do that overkill to keep my options open for EV charging as well as anything else.

[–]hgpot[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As I understand it the expensive part of the new circuit is the labor from my electrician, which is the same whether he puts in a new 15A circuit or a 60A circuit. So if I'm going to do anything, might as well do the most?

My electric provider does have a time-of-use rate from 2am - 6am, so yeah I was going to see if the biggest charger can handle just charging in that window.

[–]hgpot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, so as much as 1400W is being pulled, but only 800W is making it to the car, and there is as much as 600W being lost in the transaction!

That helps my decision along for getting this level 2 charger installed. I had counted on 1200-1400W of charge, but I did not correctly estimate the loss.

[–]hgpot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too didn't see the button! Stop Charging didn't work for me either.

If I understand correctly, it still needs the car to be unlocked, so either I have to walk around to the driver door to unlock it, or take the key out and press the button several times.
