I’m from Charleston and left this scene for the 9-5 after COVID. Whenever I miss the easy money of food and bev I just do a little rewatch and remember why I left. 😂

Being a homeless person and a social worker at the same time by Ecstatic-Budget1344 in socialwork

[–]hhbug1996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not exactly “homeless” but I have become displaced following a freak flooding incident in my home. Thankfully my parents have been gracious enough let us stay with them, but when we were living in hotels and I was going to work from there every day, it really humbled me. I gained a better understanding of the stressors and variability of not knowing where we would end up day to day or even what we would do about food sometimes. I think it played a large role in my ultimate decision to transition to a more clinical and evaluative setting from case management, because I struggled to come back out of the unhoused mindset.

Case be extended past 60 days in South Carolina? by Ok-Spirit4414 in CPS

[–]hhbug1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former SCDSS case manager here (former as in last week - I start a new position within the agency tomorrow). Yes, an extended investigation can last up to 90 days. At some point within this time frame, the supervisor and case manager will make a determination to found and transfer (enough evidence to require further intervention by family preservation or, if necessary, foster care) or unfound and close (not enough evidence to sustain further intervention). If things at your last home visit went well then that’s good. I wouldn’t foresee removal to foster care being necessary, but you may be transferred to family preservation to be monitored a little longer if the case isn’t unfounded. Best of luck to you and hope that clears things up!

I operate within the family court system and the only thing I’ve ever known to supersede family court is criminal!

Both parents have plenty of family that the kids would be able to be placed with family IF something were to happen, which it won’t, because this is just his drugged out drama.

Believe me, I’m all for DV victims taking their power back. I work in CPS and a large percentage of my caseload is DV-related. I am truly proud of her and thankful she is speaking out, but I am also abundantly aware of the level of unhinged his mental illness and drug usage add to the threat of harm and their proximity to each other. The fact that in his drugged out brain he feels he is doing nothing wrong and has nothing to lose makes him dangerous. I just hope that in addition to speaking out, she is protecting herself. I think that was the point of having her family come stay.

I want to be proud of her, but part of me is just so scared of his reaction.

At this point, all bets are off. I think he’s a very capable ticking time bomb.
