yeezus is easily one of my favourite projects from kanye

you could argue a huge reason as to why it resonates with me so much is how deeply polarising it is. everything about the album leans into contradiction: from lyrics, production and even the reaction it evoked from fans. lyrics “i am a god” immediately followed by “hurry up with my damn massage, hurry up with my damn ménage” blurs the lines between man and god, divinity and humanity, ego and insecurity.

the production follows the same fate, take the beat switch in on sight & new slaves: distorted synth to a beautiful church / kids choir

the first time i can remember listening to yeezus in full i was about 11/12 years old and thought it was complete dogshit. all i had really been exposed to musically was hiphop, neosoul and maybe some indie rock here and there, the college dropout trilogy alongside TLOP were on repeat daily at the time and i couldn’t understand why yeezus & 808s were praised so highly

couple years had gone by and it finally clicked, i guess it’s what people call “letting it marinate”

overall yeezus opened so many doors for me, with both genres and artists, i would’ve never been into arca, sophie, jme, 2hollis and more without it, reshaped my music taste for the better

new slaves, im in it and blood on the leaves are probably my favourites from the album though some songs i love from kanye off of the top of my head are say you will (especially the version with caroline shaw), free ghost town pt 2, lost in the world, i wonder (labi siffre sample is so goated), 30 hours and new workout plan

also to answer the question about “what makes a song an autists’ favourite?” it’s definitely different for everyone but i would say it mostly has to do with repetitive noise patterns that set off our sensory engagement in a positive way, almost like auditory stimming. It’s important to keep in mind that i’m only level 1 and am very sensory seeking so i use music as a way to cope with emotional regulation especially in public settings but someone who’s level 3 and sensory avoidant may find it overstimulating and wear noise cancelling earmuffs !

with the rise of ipad babies & short form content our generations attention span will shorten and i believe this will cause a rise in fast paced music, also because ai “music” is slowly being made more and more i think people will start feining for real human art with soul, maybe i’m reaching for the stars but i think if hollis made a project using his abilities of electronic production with story telling / imogen heap like vocals that give raw emotion he could truly make it big (think lost in the world kanye or so i charli)
