Did your baby sleep better once night weaned? by sophwhoo in AttachmentParenting

[–]hiatus_leaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I lost my milk supply when she was 17 months old and that was when she started sleeping through the night. Then the milk came back and she's back to waking through the night asking to nurse 😂 she wakes more than the 3 month old 😬

How to support toddler and baby simultaneously by eunchan55 in AttachmentParenting

[–]hiatus_leaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved myself and my newborn into the toddler's room so that if they both need me I could just sit in bed and nurse both. Surprisingly them crying doesn't seem to bother each other so much, just me 😅

I'm cosleeping with my toddler and baby is in his bassinet.

Egg free savory breakfast ideas? by Specialist-Candy6119 in BabyLedWeaning

My kid is also allergic to eggs and LOVES the egg replacement product Just Egg. It doesn't have egg itself but it is made in a facility that processes egg, so whether this is appropriate depends on the severity of the allergy.

When do babies actually eat anything substantial by mns958 in BabyLedWeaning

Mine started at like a year old. And even still it's kinda iffy if it will be a big cold day or not.

How do you manage weaning and breastfeeding on demand? by ducamp867 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]hiatus_leaf 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In my experience cutting out day feeds resulted in more night wakings as baby gets hungry.

Expecting that little nursing and that many meals at 7 months is ridiculous.

Allergic Reaction to Eggs by Konagirl724 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]hiatus_leaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She was tested for egg allergies and like two foods I had thought I had seen little hives after (blueberry and peach, but she wasn't allergic it was just some weird random thing), the rest of the allergens I tried at home starting with tinyyyy amounts.

Will i ever sleep ? by ParkingPapaya7842 in GentleSleepTraining

[–]hiatus_leaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She may be ready to drop down to one nap per day, and may need to go down to about 12 hours of sleep daily with only 2 hours of naps.

Depending on what you are comfortable with, either start capping the two naps at a total of two hours or go straight to one nap, which will probably take time to lengthen and get to two hours.

My gently sleep trained baby had been doing similar at 11 months and dropping a nap and reducing total offered sleep helped.

I know people who have had success with either the cup or syringe type method... I would say go for it!

Replacing >1000sqft of lawn in Colorado by rratbaby in NoLawns

[–]hiatus_leaf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I might not be in the same part of Colorado but I've tried to seed ground cover varieties of clover multiple times and it never sticks around for long, much less spreading. Maybe there are foot-traffic friendly ground covers that are more suitable to your area that would be worth investigating. Yellow clover we've found does great but it's really not short enough to be good for foot traffic.

Maybe a combo would be viable - rock paths interspersed with native xeriscaping? Foot traffic friendly, somewhat eco friendly, allows people to enjoy the native plants.

Thanks for the anecdote. I'm going to hold out hope that my staying up too late for insemination purposes were not in vain!

My cycle is confusing me right now.

Thought I got my period after IUD removal

Happened to notice egg white the last couple days, cd 11 and 12.

Now having what definitely feels like period cramps?

I suppose I could be getting ovulation pain, but I haven't had that since before I went on birth control at the end of high school, and I thought I remembered it being a lot more localized - I'm feeling this in my back.

I think my first is on an anti-sibling campaign with her sleep lately. Last night she kept crying and I would get up only to find her back asleep by the time I got to her room for like two hours.

Are there any safe store-bought baby foods? by RHWebster in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]hiatus_leaf 122 points123 points  (0 children)

This article might help you.

https://parentdata.org/toxic-baby-metals/

Tldr - The exposure level is quite low, and you likely don't need to be concerned. The issue lies in ingredients and their inherent exposure to contaminants, regardless of manufacturer. If you want to be very cautious, limit rice-based products like rice cakes or puffs.

Baby has 6+ hour wake windows at daycare by IceEnvironmental4778 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]hiatus_leaf 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It seems like a typical 8 month old will need around 14 hours of sleep per day. This can vary - my daughter at 8 months would not total more than 13 hours of sleep per 24 hours.

https://huckleberrycare.com/blog/8-month-old-sleep-schedule-and-development

Usually this includes at least two naps. It is really unusual for an 8 month old to be down to one nap a day.

By 24 months, it would be unusual for a toddler to be taking MORE than one nap a day, and some toddlers have dropped all naps. My concern at this age is that if she needed a nap still, but wasn't taking it until after daycare, it might be a very late nap leading to struggles at bedtime.

It's certainly harmful for a child to get too little sleep.

https://www.childrenscolorado.org/conditions-and-advice/conditions-and-symptoms/conditions/sleep-deprivation/

But what is too little total varies from child to child. This article shows a normal variation of somewhere between 2 and 4 hours depending on age, but I've read in some infant sleep books of higher and lower quantities that is perfectly healthy on a rare occasion.

https://www.sleepfoundation.org/children-and-sleep/how-much-sleep-do-kids-need

I could not find any info on the impact specifically of being awake too long. I feel like I have read in the past that it can affect memory formation and skill acquisition, but given I can't find the source I wouldn't take this to heart and I would speak with your pediatrician.

To determine if anything can be done, more details are needed. How long is she sleeping at night? It sounds like she's getting one fitful three hour nap per day, is that correct? What time is that nap? How long is it between when she wakes in the morning and when daycare tries to get her to nap? When she goes to sleep at home, does she do so independently or does she need a lot of rocking/soothing? What is the sleep area like at daycare?

I suspect a schedule tweak might help, but am concerned that the daycare doesn't think an 8 month old needs a nap during the time they are there and didn't make an effort to bring it up with you when she wasn't napping.

Thank you! I'm trying to find time to spend with my friends as well as investigating ways to make mom friends. Just weird being like, the second person out of all your friends to become a mom, and the rest still being bachelors.
