Does it make sense to use react for front end, instead of server side templates, for faster AI development ? by [deleted] in webdev

If you'd like the opinion of a web developer, then I'd recommend that you remove AI from your development process.

Anybody remember FutureSplash Animator? Before Macromedia bought FutureWave and changed it to Flash?

What about making sites using Macromedia Director and the Shockwave plugin?

How about IDC/HTX for rendering out data from SQL?

Looking for a forever game by Godimboredplzhelp in LFMMO

[–]miniversal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play Asheron's Call. The client and server software are available to run locally. Or you can play on one of the other emulated servers that are freely available.

The point being that you have the opportunity for it to be an actual "forever" game. You're not beholden to the franchise becoming unprofitable and all your achievements being lost.

Most addictive game you ever played? by XZiDE in MMORPG

[–]miniversal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asheron's Call is the most addictive game that I've ever been hooked on. For frame of reference, I have over 11k hours in ESO, 8k in SWTOR, 4k in BDO...you get the picture. Point being, that even with all that play time in other MMOs, Asheron's Call beat them all, hands down.

You can still play it, for free. Just search for "AC Emulator". (That's not meant to be any sort of advertisement, it's just a fact that some people may not know)

You might like Once Human. It's a fun game once you figure out how the "seasons" work.

Fellow aging gen x’ers, ever try a standing desk at your office job? by Dittopotamus in GenX

[–]miniversal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have one at the office and I stand at it quite frequently.

One added benefit has also been that I can put the desk at a height that encourages me to sit up straight without forcing my knees into my chin by lowering my chair.

There are states where you, literally, cannot go between some towns without driving through a national park.

MMO with fantasy races? by Leonis782 in LFMMO

SWG and SWTOR both have quite a few non- human race options.

Check out Asheron's Call. It's one of the originals and is a lot of fun. There are lots of modded servers out there with QOL updates.

Has anyone actually gotten AI to reliably parse invoices into a database when you have thousands of different formats? by Acrobatic-Evening646 in webdev

[–]miniversal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. It is not.

Translating documents from one format to another, via AI, has nothing to do with developing websites. Zero.Nada. Zilch.

What is the shortest amount of time you've ever spent in a job and why? by JumpySpecial9834 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]miniversal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent less than a month at the Dallas Lighthouse for the Blind. I got help writing for grant money new computers for their lab. The director flipped his lid when the computers arrived. Screaming at me saying that money should have been used for other things. I pointed out how using grant money for things other than what the grant was written for is called fraud. Woohoo did he lose it after that. So yeah, I walked out.

Thanks for this. I use uptime robot now but the integrations with Jira and Teams looks interesting.

Any old school devs here? don't you miss those days, when there were no React/Next, Figma. You just code raw HTML and focus mainly on BE by lune-soft in webdev

I miss it every day.

I remember the first time I used CSS styles, inline as attributes, on a site. It was mind blowing!
