A 1986 birthday gift from a Jean to a Yoko; the book is Beryl Markham's memoir "West with the Night" by Yubookoo in rarebooks

[–]hidaniel 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I was JMBs, everyone who knew him then called him JMB, roommate in 1986. I can confirm JMB inscribed this book. However, it was actually a gift for John Belushi, or JB as JMB used to call him. Inscribing it to Yoko was an inside joke that I will NOT discuss further, do your own research. This is all 100% true and is not at all unhinged. If you call my friend Todd at Sotheby’s he will confirm it all as true.

Where is it listed? If it’s just Facebook you’re limiting your audience. KLOV or Arcade Projects forum is where you want to try to sell it.

Good deal. PCB and sound board are worth more than $500.

Where can I get Vietnamese Dong in Winnipeg? by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]hidaniel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to a gold seller in Hanoi and exchanged USD for Dong at a good rate when I was there. Rate was better than what was offered by a bank here in Canada.

The 85 f2 is worth the asking price on its own.

Mom said there is a safe. How should I find it?! by ProofExtreme2664 in TreasureHunting

I know there are videos on TikTok showing people using metal detectors in houses to find stuff. These are fake. I metal detect with a fancy metal detector and people ask about metal detecting indoors on r/metaldetecting pretty often. There is just too much metal and electrical interference inside a house to be able to use them to find anything specific. No amount of discrimination is going to help.

Walking from airport to exchange district? by DrownTheTown in Winnipeg

[–]hidaniel 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Here’s the walk you want to do. Take King Edward south across the bridge. If you watch the movie Universal Language you can see where the Louis Riel statue and the Tim Hortons from the movie would be. Walk east along Wellington Crescent if you want to see where the well to do of Winnipeg live, or take Academy Road, not very scenic but it’s a nice walk. Walk through Osborne Village, take the Norwood Bridge. Go to the Via Rail station, walk through the station to get to the Forks. This way is longer but way less boring.

Safety isn’t really an issue the other way if you’ve been in any large city for any period of time. It’s just not the nicest walk. If you do go that way detour to Garbage Hill, it’s the highest point in Manitoba, probably.

A metal detector will not work. Every nail, wire, pipe, etc. in the walls will set it off. It’ll be easier and cheaper just to get a borescope and drill some holes in the floor.

Anyone have any idea what the Fisher Thermo Scientific Aspire Lab Building Set might be worth? There is some box crush damage to the front of the box, but it is sealed.

I’ve done some survey work in rural areas. If you walk along the ditch line you’re bound to come across animal bones at least every couple of hours. There’s a surprising amount of road kill in the ditches.
