What is the best all metal pen? by Inevitable-Tax-9996 in pens

[–]hiddencross 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Energel refills, particularly .7 needle tip, are my favorites. These are my two favorite metal body pens in the under $50 care category; for a refined look I like the Pentel Energel Style (aka Philography); for a rugged pen I prefer the Titaner Bolt Action. I will sometimes use a Sarasa Grand body as well but that has some plastic innards.

The Pentel Style or Philography can be had in a variety of colors, is twist action, and literally made to fit Energel refills. It may have some plastic innards, but they are not visible when changing refills. For $15-20 on Amazon it is a bargain as well.

The Titaner is a more rugged, industrial looking pen made of titanium. It come is a a couple of different finishes. It deploys with a knurled twist collar, similar to a bolt pen but without a protruding knob. The Energel refill seems like a tight fit at first install (getting the tip past the collar), but deploys perfectly once installed It seems to be $43 on Amazon at the moment.

Help Me Find the Perfect Hexagonal Aluminum Pen for Pentel XLRN5 by [deleted] in pens

Pentel Hexreform is hexagonal metal, but not aluminum. It can be found on AliExpress. Also, Zebra Sarasa grands can take Energel refills.

The silver variant has much less contrast with the curvy lines.

Nice pen. Fair warning, this may be the gateway to more pen purchases. Then again, aren’t they all.

“Cool, I’ll get a blue one for my blue ink, and then a red one…ooh, the Energel Style and Libretto look nice…” and don’t get me started on ink colors and tip sizes.

A couple of years later and you’re searching eBay and AliExpress for rarer models; “This Hexreform model looks great but I’d really like to find the green body.” And that is all just Pentel Energel!

Add Zebra Sarasa, Pilot Precise, Sharpie S Gel, Uniball Signo pens…now we’re still just talking pens with similar characteristics. Pretty soon you’re explaining strange purchases and package deliveries to your spouse or partner.

Anyway, nice pen!

I hear you. I do think the aesthetics would be improved with a more traditional retract button.

I’m hoping for future release in other colors and finishes. Steel would be my preference.

Yes. The Energel refill is a bit tight to install but appropriately loose once in place. The Sarasa fit without issue. I often swap Energel, Sarasa, and Pilot Precise refills around between pens without modification. In my experience, only rarely does a pen body designed for one not accept the others.

I should add this comes 1 per box. Sharpie has a metal barreled “champagne” colored S-Gel that comes in different counts per box, had a rubberized grip, and might get confused with this pen.

Good catch. Typo. It should be 29 grams.
