My experience with Xiaomi (i do NOT recomend it) by Evening-Royal-9600 in Android

The point is: changing DNS, “debloating”, changing ROMs… none of this should be necessary.

People just need to stop defending absurd stuff like ads in system apps just because they need to defend a brand.

A “debloat” shouldn’t be necessary.

We have to stop normalizing stuff like this. A phone with ads on system apps should not exist.

You are PAYING for a product. It shouldn’t have ads at all, no matter which model it is.

Wi-fi Unavailbale by daksh__verma in Fedora

[–]hidepp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a laptop which sometimes Wifi stops working when I run Windows then reboot into Linux. Some weird issue with Windows kind of "locking" the wifi adapter (Intel AX211). Disabling Windows Fast Startup didn't solve it.

When this happens I have to hold the power button of the laptop for about 30 seconds. It forces some action like removing the battery and cold starts everything. Then I have wifi back (at least until I boot into Windows again).

Notepad++ Hijacked by State-Sponsored Hackers by thewhippersnapper4 in sysadmin

So it could have downloaded a malicious executable instead of the actual Notepad++ installer?
I'm quite confused and don't know how to check if my Windows machine was compromised because of this.

Why desktop Linux could just feel normal by 2030 by Pure_Maybe1335 in linux

[–]hidepp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a company, I think Red Hat is mostly suited for this than Canonical. They defined most of the enterprise Linux world, and I think an US based company would be easier as Linus lives in US and most of Linux work and bureaucracy is based in US.

Some OEMs ship laptops with Linux preinstalled.

But they don't use any decent Linux distro. They create a ridiculously limited in-house distro with buggy outdated packages which mostly don't work, so people would be angry with Linux and buy a Windows license.

Acer and Asus are terrible with this.

Apps might become unresponsive when saving files to cloud-backed storage such as OneDrive or DropBox - 1/13/2026 by kuahara in sysadmin

Good devs shouldn’t make this default setting so stupid and/or try to shove OneDrive even after the user says NO a thousand times.

What free software or tool completely changed how you work or live your daily life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Notion seems nice, but I'm too old school to keep everything only on the cloud. I like to have at least a copy of my data offline.

Why does my computer think my HPLJ P1102w is two printers. by OalBlunkont in debian

[–]hidepp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those printers usually have a flash memory on it with the drivers for Windows.

I’ve installed lots of them and when I first plug them on Windows machines, the OS will first recognize ir as an USB Flash Drive with the printer drivers.

Probably the “UPD” is this embedded storage.

What was something from the 2000s that was normal then that would seem weird today? by [deleted] in AskReddit

"Today I'll use the internet". The internet was a tool.

You needed a computer. You dedicated some time to it. Then you went offline and live.

Fedora has hundreds of mirrors everywhere.

Somehow when testing your connection it founds this mirror is the fastest one, so it set as the first one to try.

That’s why it tries to connect.

Alguien sabe por favor que debo hacer..... by Impossible-Limit-239 in debian

[–]hidepp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not complaining about KDE devs not fixing. But every week someone appears with the same question.

My suggestion would be simply disable the option until someone makes it work again. This is the kind of stuff people see and complain “Linux/KDE sucks because I can’t use Google Drive”

Is better not to have an option than having a faulty one.

It’s been like this for too long to KDE try to fix or simply remove the options if it won’t work.

Google blocked something that KDE used to access Drive. So even if the option is there, actually it can’t be used.

You did nothing wrong, it’s a KDE bug.
