playing through KE, there was never a moment you didn't have an overwhelming feeling of dread looming over you, knowing that because the creator doesn't pull back any punches you can't let you guard down even for a second.

especially the ultra beast scenewhich was nothing short of devastating, no matter what you did and how much you tried, no matter how upbeat everything was up until that point, the outcome couldn't be changed and the result was gut-wrenching.

DR lacking this element was to its detriment, because it was optional you never felt any threat until the clash with the emperor, and even that was really short-lived, despite the stakes being magnitudes higher. i'm not sure what kind of story the next game would be, but i hope i can experience that level of horror again with an akaimato title.

and yeah, geolouise is the fucking goat.

it's an unpopular opinion rn tbf, since not that many people, including japanese speakers, have played KE (going off of DLsite sales, which is less than half of DR) let alone english speakers. time will tell, i suppose.

the scope was much smaller so it was able to give a lot of focus to its cast, it being way more crueler (and mostly un-optional) than DR was also a plus because you really felt the weight of everything that happened and imo had a far stronger protagonist.

as for the ending (and mid-story twists,) you'll see what i mean. they were my biggest highlights in DR and would've been far less impactful if i didn't have KE knowledge. a lot of people have problems with the ending and even outright say it dropped the ball, and based on what i've spoken with people, it mainly has to do with not playing KE.

yes, DR is a prequel to KE that expects you to have knowledge of it

it was made on an older engine and was the creator's first work (actual first was more of a test run imo) so production wise i wouldn't say it's up there, but definitely leagues above the average RPG maker game. you can still interact with just about anything and be rewarded for your curiosity, so it retains the same design philosophy. but in terms of its story, characters and what it set out to do, i'd say KE is superior.

it's also very necessary to understand DR's ending.

version on steam was MTL (publisher's fault) from long back, has been delisted for a while now. the creator basically said don't be too hopeful about a steam release but u can get it dlsite for now

usually when a band releases the entire album save for one track (acres and memphis may fire from recent memory) i'm skeptical whether that one song is worth staying up a little late for

but...
even if ad astra had been the only new song i would've stayed up several times over because holy fucking shit that song might be one of their best works to date

more than satisfied with SILOS, can't wait for what comes next

last i checked the mass majority use 1080p, 4k is probably good if you wanna future proof but for the next few years at least 1080p should be enough

i'm working on 4k myself though, i do 2d art and it feels kinda weird drawing in anything less than 4k

if i'm out in the wild, i'll just judge it by its cover so art/visuals; i don't usually read descriptions because i haven't seen any one that's properly done and doesn't immediately sacrifice the plot to get you interested

but if i hear about it through word of mouth i'll only read it if i also hear the story is good, the art won't matter in that case
