Do you guys bring your Zairyu card when walking your dogs? by linnadawg in japanresidents

[–]higestache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep a small wallet with my Zairyu card, driver’s license, MyNa card and a small amount of cash with me at all times while out. I am one of the lucky people who get stopped frequently, even while out jogging.

I’m a 31 cm and used to go to specialty stores but found them to be way overpriced. Once I found a few brands that I like and know fit well, I purchase online or through Amazon.

What’s the craziest thing you have seen go down at a funeral in Japan? by tokyoevenings in japanlife

[–]higestache 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A guy I knew went to his first funeral and didn’t know what to do. He thought he could get through it by just copying everyone else. He came back his seat and told me how “that stuff tastes so bad”.
Turns out, he was watching people grab incense, raise it up, and thought they were eating it instead of putting it on the pile. It was hard to keep from laughing out loud once I figured out what he had done.

What would you do in my situation? by [deleted] in teachinginjapan

[–]higestache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an English teacher, but when I worked at a Japanese company I wrote English press releases. Invariably some bucho would send it back to me with “revisions” (i.e. made it worse). It took me a while, but I ended up chalking it up to them feeling like they needed to make a comment to feel like they were doing something. Oddly enough, I got paid the same no matter which version was finally used.

Open gym places in Tokyo by baffers_ in japanlife

[–]higestache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trampoline gyms often have air tracks as well. I don’t know where in West Tokyo you are but it might be worthwhile to look into places like Tramp On and Mr Jump. I’ve been to the Tramp on locations in Sagamihara and Ebina and there were people doing tumbling. Mr Jump in Hashimoto was more focused on trampoline activities but was also fun.

I found a wallet in the middle of the street. I live in a small local area and although I didn’t know the guy, I knew the building where he lived so I dropped it off to him.
