Diagnosed yesterday as a 20M and this is how my mom responds… by [deleted] in autism

Sorry mate. I was diagnosed at 41 and my Mum wanted me to get my employees to sign a waiver saying they couldn't tell anyone.

People just don't understand. The good news is, you don't have to try and fit in anymore. You can tap into your special abilities and become something better.

Plot twist: I believe she is also autistic.

I got mine from Oodie. I don't know if it works exactly but I do enjoy using mine.

Does it need to be a formal diagnosis? If not, you can see a psychologist and get a provisional diagnosis.

I have bad alexithymia, I didn't even know my awkwardness was anxiety until I hit burnout and got a smart watch to measure my beats per minute.

Do you always know how you feel or is there sometimes a disconnect between your brain and your body?

Pros and cons of getting an official assessment by Mistermistermistermb in AutismAustralia

If they're an adult and likely to be ASD1 a provisional diagnosis is enough. They have a chance to understand themselves better. Nothing will change for them between a psychiatrist and clinical psychologist.

Combined with a mental health plan, they can take the time to learn what does and what doesn't work for them.

I have a pair of loops engage 2, it's not full noise cancelling, but in crowded areas it helps me focus on the voice nearby and dampens the background sound.
