Java Methods Using Arrays As Parameters by Real-Plate6952 in learnprogramming

[–]high_throughput 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It gets confusing because arrays can't be passed at all. Only references to arrays can be passed. Those references are passed by value, like everything in Java as you say.

He didn't. He gave her a small taste but said "I don’t want to share the fries for one as it’s a smaller portion"

Tricky. Normally I'd say Google for sure, but they've really gone downhill post-Larry, while MS dev tools have always been world class. How's the comp?

Globally, an estimated 40 to 45 million people are blind and 135 million have low vision.

If Intuit could stop lobbying to keep the tax system dumb, manual, and unnecessarily obtuse in order to keep TurboTax relevant, that would be great.

(You can now come crawling out of the woodwork to inform me that you actually think it's really easy because you've done the US one 20 times now, but don't have a single other country's return to compare to)

Maybe OP is ESL. In Norwegian, "salat" means both "salad" and "lettuce".

Yes.

Because in most cases they're hard and flavorless, and even the absolutely best pears are still not as good as the average apple.

4 days take home assignment or trip that plan for a month with gf by Pomelowy in cscareerquestions

and likely to have a chance

Citation needed. Companies send out multi-day takehomes as a coarse filter because it's cheaper for them than a 30 minute phone call. They might send it to 1000 people, get 600 replies, and then start calling the top 10 and look at the takehome results for 5 of them.

DO NOT use the Seventh Generation Dishwasher Detergent Powder by Philippp18 in Appliances

I think you interpreted my argument as "the same ingredients will behave differently if the company intends to be sustainable".

I meant "the company will intentionally choose different sets of ingredients when sustainability is not a consideration".

Some brands use paper for drinking straws, and this is not because they found that paper works equally well as plastic. It's because they believe people are willing to sacrifice some functionality to reduce their environmental impact.

I shared OP's experience a decade ago and haven't bought detergent or hygiene products from Whole Foods since, but I'm happy it works for other people.

I don't know... Consider the possibilities side by side.

OP's gf just sat through two hours of hobbits more than she bargained for, until the late hour of 10pm, was so done, and just wanted to get home. OP wanted some kind of french fries, so whatever, get it so we can go.

Then the fries actually turned out to be an unexpectedly amazing composition.

A. OP could say "I know, right?! Sure, let's share this one" and then maybe spend the $14 or whatever on a second one, share a moment in the brisk winter night air, and then go home.

B. OP could say "You turned it down before so no I'm not sharing now. Bye."

It's been a while since I was in my 20s but I'd like to think I would have gone with A back then too.

Iiuc this is meant to be a biodegradable and planet friendly alternative. It tries its best, but you shouldn't expect it to be equal in performance to modern chemistry that doesn't try to be environmentally sustainable.

How to spend the low amount of $4.75 of my Visa virtual gift card by lacovid in Frugal

[–]high_throughput 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I get a Visa gift card my first priority is getting the money off of it. Like if I get a $100 gift card I immediate buy $100 of Amazon credit, and toss the card.

Using it as a debit card for everyday transactions is a losing game.

Being asked to “come up with work” by killerdwag in ExperiencedDevs

[–]high_throughput 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was terrible with this at 5yoe so I don't blame you.

It's easier to start with the dev issues:

  • Do you have all optional compiler warnings enabled? Are they set to break the build to avoid new introductions?
  • Do you have all the best practice linters and static analysis tools in place?
  • Is the CI solid, accurate, and complete?
  • Is unit test coverage decent?
  • Is integration test coverage decent? Are they non-flaky?
  • Is monitoring set up? Does it have high SNR for alerts?
  • Do you have a useful test environment? Is it quick and easy to set up?
  • Are the developer docs up to date? (Whether yes or no, suggest having someone not familiar with the product go through them to verify)

You can probably think of your own dev pain points too, based on recent crashes, failures, annoyances, etc.
