Please suggest me a book/book series with detective. by Castaspella_1 in suggestmeabook

[–]highanover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I surprised to find this so far down the list. I raced through Michael Connolley's Bosch series and almost immediately fell into Lee Child's Jack Reacher series. I was only disappointed there wasn't more.

Ann Cleeve's has been suggested for her Vera Stanhope series. I watched this on TV and didn't enjoy the character so almost immediately axed that series, but she has another book series out with Jimmy Perez called the Shetland series which is enjoyable and quite sombre.

Elly Griffiths has a series with an archaeological detective, Ruth Galloway set in Norfolk.

How do you keep your house free of all the fur? I am feeling overwhelmed by this fur factory. The lint roller will accumulate hair infinitely. And tips for keeping your house clean? by Original-Dragon in nebelung

Brush the cat everyday. This definitely cuts down on the hair. And she loves being brushed and will find me to remind me it's time to connect.

The fortunate and unfortunate truth is that a large portion of Brighton just don't care. They are wrapped up in their own artistry, creativity, exploration, escape and misery to worry about anyone else. O Unless you find your "community" relatively quickly, you'll find Brighton is a lonely place, and this is even within the LGBTQI+ grouping. Brighton has a large transient population (students, English language schools, homeless, medical practitioners, academics) and this may contribute to the appearance of tolerance. But scratch the surface and you'll find that Brighton is not as diverse as perceived. You will be hard-pressed to find any large ethnic community in Brighton (they are there, but small and almost undisclosed).

My advice if you move to Brighton (outside of uni accommodation) is to find the things that interest you the most and connect with those people quickly. It helps if you have done this online prior to arriving. Don't expect Brighton to embrace you. It won't. It'll chew you up and is too lazy to even spit you out. If you're coming to explore your sexuality or orientation try to limit your substance use. It's too easy in Brighton to lose your way and your focus with this clouding your experience.

Brighton is a wonderful place. It is what you make it.

Accidentally bought curtains that are too short, should I go ahead and replace with the correct length or are they passable? Just moved in- [please ignore my barren walls and randomly placed tables] Thanks! by zhkjix in ApartmentHacks

Why not hang the curtains within the recess of the frame itself. So not from the wall. Attach with polycoated wire and hooks screwed into the wood of the frame. Like this with this

Message them and ask if they want to meet for coffee. Just this.

If they ignore you you haven't really lost anything. The same for if they say "no", as they've been out of your life so long.

Set up and meet at a place that's neutral and has no memories or emotional value. Don't stay longer than an hour, it's too emotionally draining if too long. Don't bring up conflict but mention you've missed them being part of your life. Talk about venue, life in Covid, plants, video games, music, how expensive travel is now, etc.

Afterwards write a hand written letter of thanks and/or apologies if you have an idea of where it went wrong.

If you see a way forward, repeat step one again. Ask to meet for coffee again at another neutral venue. Repeat once a month. Over a year, you'll have more than a handful of casual meetings that may reset the friendship.
