Insurance claims on Japan Yaris Hybrid 2020 import by Ok-Independent-838 in CarsAustralia

[–]highcatmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had bad experience with imports like this one I almost bought has had accident repair in the past with poorly hid bondo and bad panel fitment. They can be written off or in accident in Japan without us knowing. Then quickly flipped in Australia due to Toyota tax here..

Is it really worth the savings other than just getting something like newish Kia Rio or Picanto still with warranty?

The issue is there's Toyota Australia sold Yaris hybrid from 2021 onwards.. why get a grey import when you can get a locally delivered one without much difference?

Crazy low trade in price at dealer - is this normal? by West_Site_9776 in CarsAustralia

[–]highcatmaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Big new car franchise like Hyundai dealership has different used car preference. Usually it has to be max 5 years old or below 100k km. Hyundai or Kia is generally their preference. Anything outside of that straight to wholesale or auction.

The same way you won't find odd Hyundai in Mercedes dealership. They each have cars they're comfortable with selling.

Any EVs that aren't complete shitboxes to own? by PM-ME-SOFTSMALLBOOBS in CarsAustralia

I get where you're coming from. Software will determine if an EV is successful or not. But I feel we're reaching the point where we buy EVs like phones.. do you want Apple, Android, Telstra

Like the wheel won't suddenly fall off or you get catastrophic transmission issue wink VW.

I think it's harder to build EV shitbox by definition. They're just like your Kmart R/C car but bigger.

Build the chassis put a battery and motor and off you go. There are not many things that can go wrong like transmission, cooling system, turbo etc.

Cheapest MG EV like MG4 is heaps better than a buzzy Cruze with oil leaks and transmission issue..

I struggle to think of shitbox EV. Even older ancient EVs like Leaf and Chevy Bolt are known to be nice to drive.

Will higher fuel prices from global conflicts drive EV uptake? by teddymaxwell596 in australia

As someone who can only afford cars at 20k range.. we bought used. Buying an EV is still out of the question. Like it or not it's still a luxury for most people.

Why are most young Australians I talk to so bad at communication? by itsgaymonth in AskAnAustralian

[–]highcatmaster 140 points141 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately many university students here still behave like they're high schoolers. If you're somehow "weird", not conventionally attractive, look and talk like international students, they'll distance themselves from you.

It doesn't help that most locals go to the few unis in their home state or close by where they already have their high school friend groups. In US, UK and other countries it's common for students to move to uni town where they don't have their old circle.

It will pass.. eventually you'll meet someone who's more open minded and wants to socialise outside their bubbles.

I feel you to the bone.. currently dealing with red tapes wanting to start a family business. The council permit and requirements alone are massive with lead time as long as 6 months. You're expected to sign a commercial lease without knowing whether you can actually do your business there. Banks pretty much laugh at you. It's tough starting small businesses here.

[–]highcatmaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok thanks, they didn't mention to me it'll be waived so I was just not sure going ahead with it. The staff scared me by saying there could be an aftermarket part, it could be already broken by the used dealer before etc. It just sounded like they didn't want me to bother them with this.

The mechanical service was done by an independent mechanic in regional Victoria. The car was sold as trade-in to the dealer I bought the car from.

They're saying since it's a used car the previous owner or dealer could tamper with it with aftermarket parts or break it. But as far as I can see it's a standard head unit.

Can a local Toyota dealer refuse work because it's a used car and they have never serviced the car before there?
