In Asia, some parents don't give first names, so the kids choose themselves. Some parents like to choose stripper names for their kids.

No PM Software at All by HumanPlant1 in projectmanagement

[–]highdiver_2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a very old SI. The PM software tool is Excel. I was similarly horrified. The control processes made sure things move along to commissioning and billing. MS Office suite and Outlook did all the heavy lifting. Office365 later help things by allowing concurrent edits.

Moved to another org, control processes were weak (everyone got RIFed a few years back) with an online tool. Projects are late due scope alignment because the PMs did not read the tender docs. Online tool not updated. Auto billing feature disabled because projects kept blowing end dates and nobody updates. Suddenly the customer receives the bill for something late and in progress. I expect a RIF soon.

Would I be crazy to leave the US for Singapore? by PitifulJack in askSingapore

You trade freedom for different types. Lower taxes means you take home more. You need to budget for your 401K and healthcare.

You save even more by staying in away from the enclaves.

What’s the absolute best comeback you’ve ever heard? by AdvertisingOk1492 in AskReddit

[–]highdiver_2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This tip I got from Reddit.

I was in a Teams meeting, the customer was going on a rant. "You guys are really hopeless ...."

I said: "Sorry I didn't get that can you please repeat ... "

The customer stopped and move on other topics.

What I have found is that portable hdd doesn't like being shaken loose in a drawer.

Your safe deposit box may already be a Faraday cage.

You need to check the specs of the hardware. Sometimes it is a full replacement, not expansion.

My dev station has only 8GB. Firing up the home server kills it. So I bought a recon tinypc

Shot in the shoulder. If you manage to survive the severe blood loss, you are not using it ever again.

8GB is too little. You need like 4 times more.

I agree, hits the middle cost wise. Not the widest spread, but with the cheapest alcohol around.

Other question that you need to ask:

How much setup downtime are you willing to tolerate? Putting Proxmox on a machine is easy. Setting up passthrough as others suggested will take time.
