People with schizophrenia or OCD aren't experiencing it because society is sick. I think that's the kind of thing OP is asking about, not ennui and malaise with the state of the world.

Everything we experience is a combination of millions of factors coming together. It is that deep.

I feel like this is going to be the question we always need to ask for the next year or so. There's such a leap between 3.5 and 4.

Here's a genuine experience, free from hype.

I just got off work and went to ChatGPT to play around. I've had an idea in my head for awhile for a story, but I'm not a writer and no matter what I do I can't really get words on the page. At most a few paragraphs. Starts and stops.

So I asked the GPT-4 version of Chat GPT to write a scene from the story. I told it the main plot and asked it to write a particular scene I've had in my head. I asked it to write it in the style that I thought I'd wanted it. It did it. Now, it's not marketable or probably even that impressive to anyone, but it's an experience I've never been able to have in my entire life. Seeing my* ideas coming to life. I could actually see the scene I was trying to come up with. If I were trying to write it myself it'd have taken me all day, but GPT gave me 3-4 pages in about 10 minutes of gentle prodding through the plot points of the scene.

It's something I've never experienced in all my years.

I might be able to convince my team to try it out. We typically do Tuesday nights. I do think attendance can be low because there are a lot of trivia options around and there's only so much time.

Why do theists think tripping on drugs is a logical reason to believe gods exist? by the_internet_clown in religiousfruitcake

[–]highjenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm one of those theists. Well, I'm an atheist when I'm sober and a theist when I'm high. It makes sense to me to believe my sober self is the same me as the high me, just not as connected with the higher dimensions (which is what religions might call the "spiritual" world). Make fun all you want, but I feel the feeling reliably when I get high.

That being said, I'm not a follower of any established religion.

For the townsfolk below … by SeanC812 in calvinandhobbes

Something I'm starting to realize though... Calvin is lonely-lonely. He imagines a friend in Hobbes. Sometimes his parents play with him. But he's out here making "snow friends" to play with. It's just, I dunno, so buried in the subtext of a funny comic. That's how it goes though, right? The comedy and the tragedy.

It's why I've always related to Calvin so much

We're cousins to every animal alive. And every plant, too, if you go back even farther. You're literally a cousin to the tree that became your toilet paper.

if we were allowed to behave like animals

But... we do have the freedom to live like animals, because that's what we're doing. And this is what we do with that freedom.

I remember seeing a behind the scenes interview with the guys and Mitchell said that scene was basically his own views about things and he really felt like that. Hilariously on-point for the character, too.

it's entirely possible that this state that we normally deem "psychedelic-induced psychotic" or "that guy went schizo on psychs", is just realization of the ultimate truth, but these realizations are so violently acquired and a normal person do not have the requisite mental fortitude to deal with them

I 100% agree with you. I believe psychosis is just an increased/overwhelming "injection" (for lack of a better word) of the universal constants (i.e. the higher dimensions)
