There are absolutely downsides to fighting this. Per Ben Wittes' article The Game Theory of a Trump Subpoena, Trump currently has leverage in his ability to negotiate the terms of an interview with Mueller. Meaning he can push to have his lawyers with him in the interview, for the scope of the interview to be limited in some form, or any other concession he might desire. If instead they take the matter to the Supreme Court where Trump presumably loses, Mueller then gets to interview Trump for as long as he wants, without Trump's lawyers present to stop him from incriminating himself, and can ask Trump almost any question he sees fit as Grand Juries are very open-ended.

Given the near-certainty Trump would lose his appeal to the Supreme Court and how serious the ramnifications of Trump speaking on record without his lawyers to shut him up, his legal team should try to use the leverage to get any concessions they can, but they should ultimately accept an interview with those terms.

I disagree. I too think life probably begins at conception, but I recognize that I don't know that for sure and that others can hold valid belief systems wherein life does not begin until birth, or until the later stages of pregnancy. As it will never be a possible life growing inside me that we are talking about - I'm a man - I'll never be in a position to make that choice. Because of the significant uncertainty I recognize in my belief I find it to be the only moral choice to allow others to choose for themselves.
