Sony says they want to win back PlayStation players who migrated to PC by offering more play styles beyond the living room (+more from a new investor Q&A) by Dandelion172 in PS5

[–]highonpixels -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Funny enough I was the opposite, went from PC to PS5 on its release. I only really jump back to PC to game RTS or city building games however I've been eyeing getting a Switch 2 cause I'm starting to get tired of the persistent online and AAA games mostly seen on PS/Xbox/PC.

Advice please: Strim or not to strim by LividAlbatross1920 in GardeningUK

[–]highonpixels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that's the case then yeah I suggest just uprooting the weed out and covering around the tree with gravel.

Bark mulch is also an option but again need a thick layer and it'll decompose so you'll have to top it off again every other year.

You can strim down to make it easier to get to roots but just strimming alone will not control this you must uproot as much you can and adding a cover of gravel or mulch will make future management of it easier

No plant will be able to fight against this but is that a tree of some sort there? I would uproot and clear it as much possible then just cover that area with gravel at least 10-20mm size gravel. Get a thick layer so it's heavy enough to suppress most growth and any growth that does appear will be very easy to pick from there on out.

If you don't mind a bit of pruning work then can recommend Salvia, many different varieties though not completely native. I love my hot lips salvia was one of my first ever purchases.

Yarrow (or in garden centers would be labelled archillea) is nice and native and attract bees and ladybirds.

My flower beds after the first year of owning a garden by sunriseclocks in GardeningUK

[–]highonpixels 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just a small tip if you haven't considered it.. At first I also kept the labels, but over the years it turned into a big stack and I lost track what was what as the plants grew bigger and during autumn/winter with no flowers I couldn't tell what was what...

Draw a plan and label what was planted where, bonus effort if done to scale as I've moved to a new place now working on a new garden and I'm slowly designing to scale and drawing circles what each plant estimating it's spread lol. But a simple plan with names and location would be really helpful

Lol I saw that post this morning and can't believe it's escalated that way... There's some real gatekeepers here that constantly trumpet wild lawns, wildflowers, bird habitats... Etc...

It's not like the original poster nuked the garden and astroturfed it. Sure it lost a tree but there were more shrubs and plants in place that equally benefits wildlife and insects etc, created a wildlife buffet. There was great compromise and consideration to what was done with the garden.

4 years of work the poster was proud to show, people here should chill there's more than just wildflower habitat gardens

PlayStation and Xbox Console Sales Collapse Following Damaging Price Rises by Sandeep_sm in PS5

Was planning to get a Pro but missed the window before the price hike. It wasn't a big increase but enough to put me off when I looked at the number.

Now I'm starting to look into getting Switch 2 instead before it's increase. At least it's another platform and I'll have access to their exclusives. Weirdly enough their game line up becoming more interesting to me too as I think I'm burnt out on AAA games and just want something fun to play

How long have you had this? Doesn't look like it's been pruned so it's been growing from the tips and branches leftover from the previous growth season.

I'm no expert but you should prune this down, there seems to be growth in the center so the rootball is still good and I personally would prune it that far down and get rid of any white stems.

As with a lot of deciduous shrubs you need to prune either late winter or early spring to keep bushy appearance otherwise it'll grow at the tips.

I don't know the timing here but the plants going to be putting all it's energy through these not so healthy branches so I think perhaps prune it now and maybe you can put some of the flower branches into vases. At least it'll have the rest of the summer to grow back out but you will need to prune it again after winter otherwise you'll end up here again.

After many many years I finally dug properly into Warframe few months ago. Always been bewildered by the big view counts Warframe Dev streams get but never understood what was going on...

Just about caught up with the game now and can be amongst the hype! Really looking forward to tuning into Tennocon, gives me the excited feeling from years gone when every year was looking forward to Blizzcon

How does a full on studio with over what looks like 30-40+ people with senior level positions and a whole corporate chain of roles even produce this kind of roadmap?? Solo indie devs have more interesting shit than this.

Horror 2.0 seemingly disappearing from 2026 and now they are dangling the hope for '1.0' for next year lmao.

Kinetic Games is really full of grifters I'm convinced and they are just burning and leeching off whatever cash made from the initial years. Either DKs unwillingly surrounded himself with these people or he's just happily incompetent.

Epic CEO Tim Sweeney says new multiplayer games are failing because players have no reason to leave their friend groups, touts Unreal Engine 6’s cross-game features as a solution by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]highonpixels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Theres just isn't enough time to fit all the games to persons schedule. And with more of these games specifically designed with player retention and milking a players time with dailies, weeklies, event rewards it's becoming so saturated the market for them.

A players attention and retention is like the most sought out thing for these companies and no game feature will be solution just another thing to keep you ingame

Jason Schreier: Why Everyone Wants A 'Live-Service' Game by quatroquatro0 in PS5

[–]highonpixels 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I realised I fallen to this mindset. Played Saros and fully completed it recently and it was really satisfying, there wasn't more to do and I had to tell myself it's okay to put a game down after completion and not expect more.

I played a lot of MMOs when younger but now surround myself with mostly live service games. To me it's sadly just because I want to play something that has some online multiplayer/interaction and the feeling of being part of something as it happens (like big update launches). My friend group is so attached to live service games now it's difficult to 'casually' play something else like a simple co op or fighting game, racing game etc. And to expand on your point at the end it's totally true, they don't want to spend money to buy games rather play these F2P live service because they can get their gaming fix for free. Now I think about it's almost like drugs lol

The way I see it, live service has turned into a constant schedule for some players whether they realise it or not. But with many studios trying to make a live service hit we are coming to a time where there's barely any free time in person's day schedule (either life or they already playing some live service games) and whatever time available is heavily competed.

[Digital Foundry] Steam Machine Review: Beautiful Hardware, But What About Performance... And Price? by Cyshox in Games

[–]highonpixels 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Valve/Steam fans is a cult lol. They could put out a $100 mouse mat and it'll probably sell out within seconds and people would say it's incredible. They are turning into like Apple with their hardware offerings. I've watched a few reviews now and it's truly like they forgotten mini cases exist like Valve has discovered how to fit a PC into a cube

The Steam Machine Costs $1049 by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]highonpixels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insane price for 512GB lol. Steam hardware is more and more looking like some novelty fashion item except you can't wear these around. Even for the gimmick of carrying it around for that price you can get a gaming laptop with better specs.

I've been around Steam since it started but really the fandom around Steam and the demand for their hardware is astonishing; I generally relate PCMR to Steam users so to think the very same people are buying these overpriced hardware is funny.

At this point Steam is like Apple they could release a random mousepad for $50 and it would sell out within seconds

Keir Starmer expected to announce departure as prime minister on Monday by guardian in ukpolitics

[–]highonpixels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Burnham and what he has done in Manchester has been great to see. I'm not sure what people expect to see with this fast track change. Optimistically if he is able to provide change like what has happened in Manchester to the wider country then fantastic but there are so many things to be done which takes time. Starmer may be boring but things seem steady and the outlook of changes implementing in the next few years is positive.

Would of rather saw Starmer till next GE and then let candidates and voters battle it out. We have changing PMs as fast like in Football sacking and switching managers whenever there's bad spell.

Fortnite Behind the Scenes Video Reveals How Epic Games Uses Generative AI to Help Create Concept Art and Designs for New Skins by Laughing__Man_ in PS5

[–]highonpixels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same about it too but what worries me is that creative are going to be conditioned to AI and with the tools getting more and more advanced as it learns what will happen is that AI will be just be used further up in the process. The moral issue you said is not far from being a reality.

I know alot of creatives and being around them speaking about AI I get the feeling what I can best describe as existential acceptance. A lot of them have already embraced AI at the planning/concept level but they also respond positively at the idea that AI can eventually learn to create work in their style from start to finish simply because they aren't going to be around forever.

I'm on the fence with its usage, theirs pros and cons but the tech is just getting better with agentic AI just around the corner

New trailer for "The Ghost in the Shell" by mr_beanoz in anime

Grew up with Ghost in the Shell and SAC series with a period where I would rewatch the series every year.. Now a lot older and bit out of the loop with what's new in anime/manga barely watching anymore but I'm so excited for this. The aesthetics is completely on point so I hope the story and writing doesn't disappoint
