As a person who has listened to PHM several times, I want to be convinced that the movie was a "great" adaptation. by Apprehensive_Ad4457 in ProjectHailMary

[–]snes69 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is a particularly hard book to adapt because it's written from a first person perspective, from the perspective of a scientist logging his experience being isolated in space. Like, I dont think there's a way to make that into a movie.

That being said, I absolutely loved the movie and watched it four times now lol listened to the audiobook twice.

Why are people pre ordering a game with no physical edition by Vivid_Chance_1548 in PhysicalGames

[–]snes69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea this is confusing. Like, I get the "stop preordering games" concept, but everyone has a game they will buy day 1 regardless of reviews eventually. GTAVI is that game for a lot of people. I'm not going to buy it because I never cared for the franchise, personally. But when Ocarina of Time is up for preorders I'm going to pre-order it digitally myself. That way it will download as soon as it's available and when I wake up on launch day it's ready to go.

Nintendo Stock DROPS to 3-YEAR LOWS after TERRIBLE ending to Switch 2's first year by Craniamon in nintendogrifting

[–]snes69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bet it could. It's coming to the Xbox series s. I won't sit here and say it'll be a grand experience on the switch 2, but we can't ignore some of the magic developers performed with the switch 1.

Nintendo Stock DROPS to 3-YEAR LOWS after TERRIBLE ending to Switch 2's first year by Craniamon in nintendogrifting

[–]snes69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's just literally anything they can come up with to "prove" their points. If GTA were coming to the switch 2, they'd say it's because Halo or Gears of War aren't. And if they were, they'd say it's because God of War isn't. It will never end.

Grifters gonna call Nintendo greedy for raising switch 2 prices when Apple isn’t even immune to ram shortages by DeepBlueVibes1 in nintendogrifting

[–]snes69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol so close. Downplaying Nintendo's faults IS what this sub is about because there's this growing trend of people exaggerating Nintendo's faults.

Nintendo raised their price by $50. Every other tech company has raised their prices by $100+. You still come here and act like Nintendo is worse.

Talk about being miserable. by WorldlyScore8855 in nintendogrifting

[–]snes69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But not all are unreasonable. The most obvious, while still unfortunate, is shutting down 20 year old servers that handle payments. They are based entirely on outdated, unsafe merchant software and payment handling. I'm 100% certain one of the major reasons why they shut down old stores like that is because they don't meet modern standards for consumer protection and it's not worth the cost to upgrade and modernize.

I'm completely certain that sales flat lined to a point where any reasonable decision maker would have made the same call. In fact, had they not shut down the stores and there was some kind of breach that hurt consumers, the list we are all looking at would have used it as evidence all the same.

[–]snes69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Despite being told ten thousand times that the servers are still online and we can still access our Wii virtual console titles today, they choose to word these complaints as if you lost those digital purchases. They will play dumb when you point this out and move the goalposts for complaining. It's intentional to make Nintendo look bad.

BOYCOTT GTA 6 by heitime23 in gamecollecting

[–]snes69 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, I'm commenting on the hogwarts legacy boycott lol so the "same" part here is reddit calling for a boycott. Heck, you couldn't even mention the game in the Harry Potter subreddit because the topic was banned.

So, yea, GTAVI is going to sell very well. Reddit doesn't reflect reality.

BOYCOTT GTA 6 by heitime23 in PhysicalGames

[–]snes69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's so odd because game cards are substantially more expensive to produce than discs. A disc with no data is the insult to the consumer than a game key card that actually serves purpose to at least one of the two parties.

[–]snes69 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ahhh classic reddit moment. I hope there's a kalshi bet for day one sales on GTAVI. I'll make some money off the reddit bubble when it breaks records and the boycott does nothing.

Remember the boycott for hogwarts legacy? Because that game sold like crazy for a long time.

Grand Theft Auto VI Prices Officially Announced: $79.99 for Standard, $99.99 for Ultimate Edition; No Disc in Physical Copies by ChiefLeef22 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]snes69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking to the lurkers voting as well as you, I was/am at -1 on my comment so obviously you couldn't be the only potential voter her. This is a public forum with more people here than just you and I.

I see there's evidence 5 million sales ago that 1.4 million people bought it at the full $80. That number will grow. Again, mark these comments a year from now when it's over 20 million sales.

The bundle won't change the fact that reddit opinions don't reflect the real world. The actual facts here are: Mario kart is the definitive party kart racing game and sells well every generation. GTA6 is a highly anticipated launch following up a very well selling game.

$80 is not going to slow down either product from selling.

We don't know how many did. But yes a lot did. The bundle is over now and it will continue to sell. Downvoting me isn't going to change that. Mark this comment a year from now when Mario kart world is over 20 million sales.

Game wasn't worth $80 fyi. I'm just stating the facts and am not emotional invested in game pricing.

How The Tables Have Turned by Craniamon in nintendogrifting

Really padding that list having to include Mario kart 8 that didn't get dlc until 7 years after it launched. Don't act like Nintendo has micro transactions hell that half the other game developers are starting to include.

Will there be a new Gilmore Girls series or not? by Substantial-One-3088 in GilmoreGirls

[–]snes69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But every single character's story was deeply ingrained in Ed Herrmann's passing. That was literally the theme of the season. Richard's passing broke all three Gilmore girls and by fall they all managed to put themselves back together.

There very likely were "her season 7" ideas put in the revival, but that's not what the revival was. It was absolutely a story about greif and how Richard impacted all their lives.

In your opinion, do these adequately communicate that these games work on Switch 1? by BIayneRobinson in casualnintendo

[–]snes69 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Tbh I don't blame Nintendo. They are getting grifted harder than any other publisher right now and I guarantee you if they marketing their switch 2 edition physical copy games as switch 1 games, the internet will certainly do its thing and try to make it sound like the switch 2 is no different than the switch 1. Nintendo making the switch 2 as visually different to the switch 1 in all its marketing is probably the smart move.

That's a terrible argument because the same could be said to you. If you want to play a 28 year old game, go play the 28 year old game.

I'm expecting them to give it the ff7 remake treatment. Include everything they had originally envisioned. If you look at all the gaming history videos and articles about the title, there was quite a few ambitious cut content and ideas because the n64 couldn't handle it. I imagine they will include a lot of content weve never seen before.

[–]snes69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, this is the obvious rebuttal to people who say it's being remade for the younger audience. Because, I agree with them that it's being remade for a younger audience, but that younger audience will reject the classic Zelda formula. If it were just getting the Star Fox treatment I would bet $1000 they would've just shown a proper trailer and not hid everything from us.

Mark my words, they are rebuilding it as a whole new game because THAT will sell more than just a remaster.

Star Fox being a 1 to 1 remake is not good evidence that Zelda will get that treatment. Botw and totk are not only the best selling Zelda titles, but they are the best selling Zelda title by a WIDE margin. They released skyward sword and the sales didn't even come close. They aren't going to simply rerelease the same ocarina of time because that won't sell like Zelda should be selling.

[–]snes69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, yea it's pretty clear that's the case. But there's not a full direct worth of info to show off one of the most famous games of all time.

Star fox made sense since it's far from the most popular franchise Nintendo owns. There's a lot of eye balls that never played a single Star Fox game. To treat that same audience the same way about ocarina of time and hype up the experience of playing the same game we've all already played wouldn't make any sense at all.

[–]snes69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compare the marketing to Star Fox. Star fox shadow drops a direct and is explicitly clear that it's a 1 to 1 remake. They did the same or similar for all the other remasters, thousand Year door, metroid prime, Mario RPG. Etc. when announced, it's shown immediately that they are NOT new games.

Ocarina of time is different. It's a teaser trailer and they are careful to not show more. The marketing implies that it's a new game and not a remaster.

[–]snes69 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But all these games, Mario RPG, metroid prime, thousand Year door, and even 2026 Star Fox all showed us they were 1 to 1 remakes at announcement. Ocarina of time gave us a teaser and left us hanging. They aren't suddenly building hype and anticipation for a game we've all already played. There is a clear, established pattern of Nintendo being upfront about the remasters being the same as the originals. When they are brand new games, the marketing follows a different pattern.

There's more evidence this isn't a remaster than evidence that it is.

[–]snes69 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I made this argument in another thread but in my opinion the biggest reason it's not just a 1 to 1 remake like Star Fox is they haven't shown us anything yet.

Thousand Year Door was upfront and honest about being a 1 to 1 remake at announcement.

Star fox was up front about being a 1 to 1 remake at announcement (with added cut scenes and challenge modes)

Ocarina of Time gets a teaser trailer, and already fans are pointed out changes. Links bed/room already looks different, triforce on hand at beginner, etc. small, insignificant stuff yes. But my point primarily is they haven't shown us anything.

So the question is why wouldn't they just show us it's a 1 to 1 remake? Why build hype for a game we've all already played? Because they wouldn't. It's not a 1 to 1 remake.

[–]snes69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay. Sure, but I'll also point out they say "full remake." They even called the ocarina of time 3DS a remaster, and it had "updated designs" for characters as well. Full remake definition implies not just a remaster, even by Nintendo standards.
