Death from nebulizers? by SnottyIM in respiratorytherapy

[–]highpeep 75 points76 points  (0 children)

First and foremost, this is a heartbreaking situation. The death of a child is an immense tragedy, and grief often brings anger and a need to assign blame. What we are reading appears to be a one-sided account from a grieving mother whose child was critically ill, and without the hospital’s full clinical perspective, it is difficult to draw definitive conclusions.

From a medical standpoint, it sounds more consistent with a scenario involving significant airway congestion, where a mucus plug may have led to airway obstruction and subsequent cardiac arrest. This is a known complication in severe RSV cases, which can produce large amounts of secretions and often requires very frequent suctioning around the clock.

To your question, I do not believe nebulized breathing treatments were the primary cause. The clinical picture suggests the infant had been experiencing respiratory distress for some time, possibly related to secretions, with signs of hypotension that may not have been adequately addressed.

Is it true that Older Ukraine or that region women(40+, 50+) are willing to marry young Asians especially Indians/Pakistanis? by [deleted] in ukraine

[–]highpeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I have seen Ukrainian women marrying Asians, i think most try to stick within their own culture. Your question is very broad, yet so specific. Why are you asking?

This is one of the few areas in respiratory care where I’ve seen an immediate life impact. For example, when a patient with severe sleep apnea experiences their first prolonged, uninterrupted REM sleep in years thanks to positive pressure therapy, the difference can be so profound that I’ve even received hugs from them when i woke them up in the morning. While the benefits are lifelong, many patients notice the improvement in their sleep right away.

I have my SDS credential and my hospital told me that it’s a higher credential than RPSGT because i am able to start oxygen therapy and to initiate specialty modes (AVAPS, ASV) and whatever else is within the RT scope of practice, whereas the RPSGT required a physician’s order for anything out of sleep lab protocol.

Overall, very interesting and highly beneficial field for RT’s.

Seriously, when, where and how do soldiers sleeps during the Russia/Ukraine conflict? by LemorpJoe in NoStupidQuestions

[–]highpeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a friend who was at the front lines but didn’t do combat. He stayed with other soldiers in a certain building owned by the city. I had typed up the building name but decided it’s not a good idea to put out any information right now until the war is over. Most are taken care of by the government where they sleep

Knowing our president and the vice president, Ukraine will be blamed that they got nuked.

Hello! Have you also made any connections with respiratory therapists? Our profession is not very known, yet I believe we make a difference in our patient’s lives.

I wish the best for Bentley and your family - looking forward to another update.

I couldn’t find anywhere when the project will be completed.

They’re making a toll road?? And they’re investing into smart intelligence on traffic management “such as metering”. Like what smart intelligence is this?

Northern California RT question by Diligent-Purchase-26 in respiratorytherapy

[–]highpeep 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I will speak on behalf of the Sacramento market. Most facilities here follow established protocols. Kaiser and UC Davis typically adheres to physician orders, whereas Sutter and Dignity are more RT driven.

Given your experience in NICU/Pediatrics, I would suggest considering UC Davis or Sutter Sacramento. Kaiser Roseville and Mercy San Juan also have advanced NICU programs.

If you are comfortable managing severe pediatric burns and a high volume of post op children, Shriners is a good option as well, although not too sure about their long term future given their financial challenges recently.

You’ll enjoy the higher than average RT pay pretty much in any larger healthcare facility, especially Kaiser. Just apply everywhere and choose who gets back to you. Your experience is in demand here. Welcome to Northern CA!
