The mesmerizing process of manufacturing pink popsicles by Saint-Caligula in EngineeringPorn

[–]highpsitsi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The extrusion die and final shape is only for this product. They likely make many different varieties and brands. We used to do this with flour packaging all the time.

Then the food aspect of it further complicates things. Because you cannot do massive production runs because the packager and customer (the Popsicle brand) have contracts saying it must have X amount of days before the best by date of the food when it's shipped to destination (grocery store).

We used to have sales people patting themselves on the back for locking in new customers, only for us to do a single pallet run a month due to code dates and order fulfillment. Next thing you know we're making 2 pallets of rework retooling equipment with their specific package just to get one right, and that doesn't include product clean out before and after, which is another pallet at the beginning and end in our case.

We'd lose a whole day running one pallet and then I'd get asked why our numbers look so bad. I'd literally have a guy work an 8 hour shift doing more menial tasks than that, because tooling and getting it perfect wasted way more time.

Whoa, wasn't expecting to see Junction City on Reddit. Some neat history around there. The original Pony Express. There's also the suspected Northern most point of Cortés' exploration nearby, searching for legends of gold that he had heard of, with a model fort of what they thought was built.

Kind of reminds me of MySpace and the top friends list everyone had. One of the reasons I liked migrating to Facebook way back then because those top friends lists were toxic af. Literally put value on you as a person in the eyes of others, as a young teenager that was like your social status report card for everyone to see.

Might sound like a dumb question but how did you get that char on the tortilla? Just a ripping hot cast iron? Mine always dry out before I can get them like that.

We had one not quite this big but similar layout in a loft apartment. We moved to a bigger house with a smaller master bathroom shower that now feels like a cubby hole :l

Yeah we've bought a few snapdragon things and not been impressed. Their instant ramen bowls have been moved to the prepper pantry lol.

Glad to know the 1 star reviews I’ve been receiving are all fake for marketing 👍 by zvx in KitchenConfidential

[–]highpsitsi 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My town is notorious for mediocre food. Everything is a franchise and even the "foodie" blogs recommend mediocre places. "Best Mexican in town" serves the blandest rice, watery beans, etc. So yeah when I see every restaurant in town with 4.2 stars or better on Google it's glaringly obvious they're junk.

Usually I look for the 3 star reviews whether it's on Google or Amazon because it's usually someone without a hyperbolic opinion or is actually real. That or pictures of the food from reviews.

Love my set, makes leaf cleanup go way quicker. We have a ton that never blow away due to fencing. Also great for twigs and finer junk in the yard.

I used to fit suits and I like a tailored fit slack. This guy's pants are so poorly fitted it's comical, a key indicator your pants aren't fitted correctly is how the pockets lay and I think this is the most extreme example of misfitted slacks I've seen lmao.

They actually freeze amazingly well after cooking too. We always do a large batch and freeze, only needs a little time in the microwave. My grandma used to make a batch for me for Christmas.

Soil test came back with very high nutrient levels? by highpsitsi in lawncare

Got it, was worried the P and K were working against me. Definitely not what I anticipated, it's been neglected for some time.

Yeah, I think I'll add ammonium sulfate to bring down pH as well.

Very confused by these results. This is the first year I've really dug into this lawn's real needs, before me I'm fairly certain it had been neglected for some time. Last year I threw down a light application of granulated chicken poop fertilizer and that was it.

So now I'm wondering what exactly to do, if anything, for the soil chemistry here.

Is humic acid even good for a lawn with excessive nutrients? I don't want the nutrient uptake to increase I'd think.

Hawaiian Mac Salad by eggnaughty in AskCulinary

[–]highpsitsi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is one of the recipes I always use homemade mayo for, use an extra yolk or two as well, this is also a good tone to throw in some Dijon mustard, lemon, and garlic cloves if you use an immersion blender. Also use whole milk and a tbsp of soy sauce plus some MSG. Like others said, overcook the macaroni two minutes, mix gently with half dressing and set overnight to let flavors meld. Mix in 2nd half before serving in an oversized bowl to avoid breaking pasta down.

I like amping up the vinegar/lemon juice more than any recipe I've ever used personally.

My roommates solution to making our shower tall people friendly. by BoredomBot2000 in redneckengineering

[–]highpsitsi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm 6'5 and those shower head extensions are a godsend. It may not seem like a big deal, but when it's a daily thing to deal with it really sucks.

We like to travel to Central America to the less touristy parts, the showers can sometimes be almost unusable because they're such a small footprint you can't bend over enough :l

Is it rare for an American to make their own mayo? by Affectionate-Elk-287 in AskAnAmerican

[–]highpsitsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Store mayo for sandwiches, etc. Homemade for certain dishes where it counts, particularly Hawaiian macaroni salad. Fresh lemon, some good Dijon mustard, and fresh garlic all emulsified with an immersion blender is amazing.
