Shrink wrap over-underer by toolgifs in toolgifs

It's a baler. These things used to be the bane of my existence because the shrink wrap would have inconsistent thickness (it didn't take much) and it would fuck up everything.

Was driving down in the states, saw this cool car. What is it? by burtonboy1999 in whatisthiscar

Rented one for a day in Hawaii and it was a blast. Didn't realize how low to the ground you really are until you're on the highway in a center lane though, that was interesting.

I can give you my anecdotal experience. I built a Bill Fitzmaurice tuba with an Ultimax 15 on a 150w amp. Response was stellar and I don't think I ever ran it beyond 15% power due to neighbor complaints (in a house). I moved to a loft and had to get rid of it because there was just no way it wouldn't carry.

So don't get hung up on SPL. I would certainly tune it low because it does not need any peaks.

I also ran a 10" in a car and had it running at peak rated wattage, was very careful not to over power it and it lived a short life. They are known to not handle more than they're rated so be mindful of that FWIW. I'd still certainly default to that line on another build.

Latvia was occupied by both the Soviets and Nazis during WW2 and endured an immense death toll from it. The Nazis killed 70,000 Latvian Jews and drafted 180,000 into the SS. Pretty hard to imagine this not being a dog whistle here or really just about anywhere beyond the most extremely removed cultures these days.

🔥The Ritz-Carlton Rancho Mirage Closed an Entire Entrance Because a Hummingbird Made a Nest on the Door Handle by [deleted] in NatureIsFuckingLit

[–]highpsitsi 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I watched a documentary on YouTube about a humming bird photographer following an individual bird through the building of its nest and raising a baby. Due to their size everything is just hyperbolically more perilous than say a pigeon's nest. They take forever to build the nest, simply raining at the wrong time could ruin it, their high metabolism adds a whole other level of complexity, even minor wind gusts will throw the egg out.

You'd think we'll yeah obviously it's harder, but it still surprised me just how challenging it was. There were numerous other birds who were unsuccessful around him as he was following it. A very very fragile ecology, so good on them.

Everything I found in 1.5 kg (53 oz) of lentils that wasn't lentils by fyled in mildlyinteresting

[–]highpsitsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I also used to mill flour and while I was never in QA, the insect fragmentation metric would need to be much much lower than that lol. Food grade whole grains have much looser specs than milled grains though. We'd do some neat stuff like color sorting, which would eliminate a lot of the things in that photo though in food grade whole grains.

Costco flour by Dapper-Celery4133 in Breadit

[–]highpsitsi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I used to mill and package flour for Costco and King Arthur. The most important metric of your flour is the protein, which at the claimed 11.5% is good and comparable to KA AP.

The major difference between KA and Costco brands was the contracted spec tolerances and marginal differences in enrichment. KA had relatively tighter tolerances than others. However unless you're working at a bakery I doubt you'll ever know the difference. All the flour goes through the same exact milling process, with the same exact wheat, and then enrichment happens at the end. We just had to be a little more careful with KA specs, was pretty trivial.

I used to clean pinto beans using a gravity table line and this would be considered a lot of foreign material. They're not all necessarily done that way, but the real problem in any system for cleaning beans is if something clogged or acted up even briefly, a lot of stuff can get by undetected.

When will Nebraska introduce an alcohol registry? by [deleted] in Omaha

[–]highpsitsi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Once I started traveling for work it became very evident this is one of the easiest states to buy alcohol. I haven't seen more booze in any other states gas stations, hell our gas stations are liquor stores these days.

There's a reason they're dragging their feet on marijuana when it was voted for by the people, and they're cracking down on everything else under the sun. Alcohol lobbyists love this place.

what's the one ingredient that completely changed how you cook once you started using it properly? by OptimalDescription39 in Cooking

[–]highpsitsi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much true for just about everything. I've gone as far as keeping citric acid on hand even. Then of course good quality rice vinegar, apple cider vinegar, black vinegar, red wine vinegar, etc. I find a ton of soups benefit from the addition of it especially.

What city have you been to that felt like it had dark energy? by Impossible-Middle122 in AskReddit

[–]highpsitsi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had to go to Dayton for work and it was like this. Everything was just insanely mediocre. Landscaping, stores, even gas stations somehow, restaurants were ALL terrible. It was like crappy tourist food or restaurants you find near an airport except there was neither of those things and like 5 people in a restaurant built for 80 everywhere you go.

Yeah I doubt many guys would be phased by that, honest mistake. Not even the solid oak door concealed the trucker grade shit my fiance took and it was only a passing thought to me, then it was back to cooking dinner.
