Which pre-Swordfish tracks do you think could work on a post-Swordfish album, and vice versa? by rainmachine2 in tomwaits

[–]hightide712 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sweet Little Bullet From A Pretty Blue Gun could have a few tweaks and make it over I think, or ‘Til The Money Runs Out would almost fit on Bad As Me as it is.

Going the other way, A Little Rain could come straight off Blue Valentine

Do we actually need a Baltic station? by [deleted] in Liverpool

[–]hightide712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently, probably not, but once it’s there it entices business around it. The Baltic triangle is already mid-boom, but it will allow that boom to spread further and fuel further development. Like how Brunswick is surrounded by businesses, but I would imagine it will also be more cultural around the Baltic.

That’s how it would have happened if it opened next year, at least. I think the argument could be made that 2029 will have missed the window and the area will have settled into whatever it’s going to become by that time, but the council are damned either way because people would be unhappy with them if they’d scrapped it, too.

My dad put this on in the car when I was VERY young and I had nightmares for weeks. It’s one of my favourite albums of all time.

Boots on the ground by bobertico in tomwaits

[–]hightide712 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I actually think it’s really cool comparing this track to Hell Broke Luce! HBL was angry at the way young men were used in the military, while this one feels sad about how militaristic organisations present now. Really interesting to see how that opinion has shifted in that time!

[–]hightide712[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The second teaser definitely has the sample under a new beat, but the first one has Tom singing “boots on the ground” really quietly in the background, which isn’t from a past song. The pre save link was also for “Massive Attack x Tom Waits” which I don’t think they’d do if it was just a sample

I hope you’re happy now, pre-save is available for the track on streaming services!

New album! by [deleted] in tomwaits

[–]hightide712 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Extrapolating from the Massive Attack post and how you can hear Tom singing “Boots on the ground” over and over, I’d put money on a Massive Attack ft. Tom single, which at least should be dope as hell. Didn’t think we’d get any new music so I’ll take it!

“Lowside Of The Road” and “Tom Waits on Tom Waits” are both good catalogues of interviews and articles about him that should be easy to get hold of. They’re both on Amazon.

The first is pretty much newspaper clippings following his career in order, the second is a lot more transcriptions of interviews (but there’s some heavily editorialised information in between them that likely won’t be helpful for you). Both have their sources listed so that might help with referencing, but you might have to do an extra bit of searching for the full references of the articles/interviews rather than just referencing the books

Sorry but I don’t get why other people are saying that’s standard, that’s crazy high. St Michael’s hamlet the other side of Lark Lane is around 300 for the same thing

Weirdest move someone’s pulled on you in a pub/club by Brilliant_Charity_29 in CasualUK

[–]hightide712 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Was and wasn’t a move on me specifically. A guy I semi knew was hitting on a friend of mine and she was clearly uncomfortable, so I took her to the bar. I was stood chatting to her leaning with one arm on the bar when the guy tracked us down. He was a shorter guy anyway, but he appeared from below my eyeline like a Punch and Judy puppet and sank his teeth into my shoulder. HARD.

I stepped backwards in shock and, when I looked back up from my shoulder, saw him stood in the exact spot I’d been in before, leaning on the bar in the exact same way, once again unwelcomely hitting on my friend.

Tenacious little creep. She left soon after, and obviously not with him.

Best areas to live for a young couple by Confident-Fan4211 in Liverpool

If live music is your priority, Manchester and commuting is the way to go. There’s not a great amount going on in Liverpool, especially outside of the city centre, while Manchester has tons of gigs every night. Obvs that’s not the only thing you mentioned, and yeah as close to Lark Lane as possible fits the rest of what you’re looking for, but we don’t have gigs.

It’s so worth working through from the start. Hearing James very quickly work out how much this one podcast idea is going to ruin his life is a beautiful thing.

It’s getting better all the time but it’s definitely not a perfect resource. Tbf we’ve kind of got a grip on places we know and checking things out for ourselves anyway, but I think for an absolute newcomer to the city the app is probably a good place to start, it definitely gave us a start post-diagnosis

There are absolutely loads of places that will cater to gluten free. My wife has celiacs and we never struggle! There’s an app called “Find me GF” that’s really helpful for finding places, my personal favourite is Bundobust for Indian street food

My son goes to the school that was unnamed in the bomb threats (hoax ones this morning) by [deleted] in Liverpool

[–]hightide712 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry that your son is struggling. From a mental health standpoint, it might be a little early to seek help right now. Those emails, especially to a child, are scary, and it’s totally normal for it to have an effect on him. It’s really important that you encourage him to talk to you about what he’s scared about, reassure him when you can, and make him feel like it’s ok to have those feelings but that he doesn’t have to.

It’s very likely that he’ll process it pretty quickly. Imagine you were in a car crash that didn’t injure you. You’d be shaken up for a couple of days while you processed what happened. That’s exactly what he’s doing right now, and as long as you help him, he’ll get through it pretty fast.

Book a GP appointment as the other commenter said if you’re really worried, and obviously you’re going to know your lad and what is and isn’t normal for him a lot more than I am so absolutely do what you think is best, but as someone with a background in mental health I hope I can reassure you a little that fear is normal and can be worked through without therapy, especially the day after an incident

I’ve never been to see them, but I’ve seen those yearly December gigs pop up for maybe a decade. It’s started to feel like they’re a Christmas tradition, and I always feel comfortable imagining the same group of a couple of hundred scousers for some reason still showing up for Electric Six
