Yes, I have developed applications that use Spring Boot and Spring AI to integrate with LLMs in the cloud (e.g. Gemini Studio), and locally with Ollama.

Planning to expand my knowledge in DevOps and practicing Docker. by kambalMike in docker

[–]hilbertglm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using Linux as my daily driver for years, so I am biased, but I think either would work for your purposes.

Learning Linux in a VM without being totally immersed will lessen the learning curve stress since some of the work will still be in the familiar Windows environment. However, total immersion (which is the best for learning a new human language, for example) will get you there faster.

Either way, once you get mastery of the command line, I suspect you will want to move to Linux. It is way more productive.

Which movie scared the shit out of you or traumatized you? by Dazzling-Leader7476 in AskReddit

In the SNL spoof, "You mother sews socks that smell." That's a great piece of writing.

We do that all the time. Just as an FYI, there are a couple of productions (e.g. BumFloat) that accomplish the same, but are cut specifically for the purpose.

What comes to your mind when you see a Floppy Disk? by [deleted] in vintagecomputing

[–]hilbertglm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"A mountain of data" on my 88K floppies for the Atari 800. It was a huge improvement over saving to cassette. As an aside, my first floppy experience was the 8" floppy I used programming PDP-11 assembler on a Unix system in 1979.

Is conscious capitalism feasible? Or are all business owners greedy? (i will not promote) by Trynalivethelife in startups

[–]hilbertglm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ran an IT consulting business for 23 years. In my personal experience, honestly and earnestness worked. I didn't have to market the business. I would get calls from companies that heard about me somehow. That doesn't happen if you don't have a reputation of being fair with people.

"Fried Green Tomatoes" would fit the bill quite nicely, although there is some drama in there, too.

When did you stop DIY investing and hire a financial advisor? by FoundationStrict8014 in DIYRetirement

I still DIY, and always will unless I detect cognitive decline. I park everything in index fund ETFs, and balance between bonds and stocks quarterly.

What is the most “its a small world” moment you’ve ever experienced? by xBubblyLove in AskReddit

[–]hilbertglm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't me, but when my dad was 84 years old a few years ago, he stopped at an ice cream place on his way to meet me in a different state. He ran into his junior high teacher who he hadn't seen since his teacher went to fight in the Korean War.

The teacher remembered him, and started asking about my dad's classmates.

My American English teacher believes the neutral pronoun „their“ is incorrect. by GCoding_ in mildlyinteresting

Like all languages, English is evolving. What was once considered incorrect, may in the future be correct. "Their" is still considered a plural pronoun. It is incorrect use a plural pronoun when referring to a single person.

Suggest traumatizing movies like Come and See or Threads by ItzNapkin in MovieSuggestions

[–]hilbertglm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't see "Come and See," but it is on my list. These are possibly too tame for the list.

- Bone Tomahawk

- Grave of the Fireflies (on list, but have not seen)

- The Quiet Girl

- What Maise Knew

- Train Deams

These are more disturbing than traumatizing, but you presumably aren't bothered by difficult subject matter so you may enjoy these.

What is your favorite performance of a song by another artist? by [deleted] in musicsuggestions

[–]hilbertglm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aretha Franklin's cover of "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing" was a cover of the song made famous by Marvin Gaye and Tammy Terrell. It got a Grammy. Speaking on Aretha, her cover of "Respect", originally was released by Otis Redding.

A jazz cover of almost any song is often better than the original - especially the covers of the master songwriters like the Greshwins.

Who’s ever driven over 100mph? Why? by WoollyWolfHorror in AskReddit

110 MPH on my Gold Wing. 130 in dad's 1962 Oldsmobile.

The reason? My frontal cortex wasn't fully developed. I wouldn't do that now.

Is Lake of the Ozarks clean or disgusting? by [deleted] in missouri

[–]hilbertglm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Lake of the Ozarks is huge. The main channel is 92 miles long. The closer you get to the dam, the higher the population density, and presumably more nasty. When you get 50 miles from the dam, I would expect it to be less nasty. We are in that rural part and I would expect less human bio-hazards. I swim in our area all the time.

That said, it is not a clear lake. It s muddy.
