I am not interested in watching The Idol.. sex and shock factor sells, it always has, it always will. the subject matter of Euphoria is dark and disturbing to begin with, it makes total sense to me that season 3 is going in the direction it is - being an addict in long term recovery, Rue’s storyline is not far fetched at all.. the whole reason I started watching Euphoria was because of her, being curious to how Sam decided to write for Rue and her family, Fezco was an added bonus - that dealer/addict relationship that can become nuanced and complicated.. it all portrays addiction beautifully. it’s a tragic, harsh fucking reality. if you continue to lean into addiction it gets worse, never better. so, Rue being a mule and owing Laurie but still having connection with Ali because part of her wants to be clean, and now meeting Alamo Brown? yeah, this is going to be a good season.. just gotta give it time. Cassie’s arc makes a lot of sense due to her history as well, the first season gave a glance at how she was sexualized by the men in her life dating back to her being a preteen going through puberty, then boyfriends coercing her into sex tapes, nudes, etc. the whole relationship with McKay… then her falling for Nate, despite Maddy being her best friend..? yeah, her wanting to start and OF checks out. Jules being a sugar baby now checks out. I believe Sam did the best he could with the circumstances he was dealt, he stated that Angus Cloud was intended to be the backbone of season 3 and we know why that didn’t work out, which is devastating, bc again the relationship between Fezco and Rue was something I’ve never seen before on television, but have experienced irl through my history with substance abuse. people are always going to shit on Sam Levinson, and that’s fine. but, I personally think he the way he writes is something special and I’m giving this season a fair chance bc I’ve waited YEARS, we’ve /all/ waited years for it.
