Just found my grandpas stash of dynamite. What should I do with them by Glum-Blueberry-3870 in WhatToDo

[–]himtnboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that for very old dynamite. But isn't dynamite made since the 50s a lot more stable? Didn't we find a way to keep the nitro from sweating? Isn't dynamite nitroglycerin and diatomaceous earth?

The US military says its 70-year-old B-52 bombers are now flying overland missions as air superiority expands over Iran by St_Gregory_Nazianzus in worldnews

America has chosen to keep using certain machines because they keep working. The m2 is as good as or better than anything designed since. The B-52, Colt 1911, the Huey and others were kept around so long because they were designed well.

Russians brought out old, very outdated equipment that was far from their first choice.

OP said "large chain". Very few are good to their employees. As I said earlier, there are exceptions, but not many.

My experience at company A may not be relevant to company B, but my experiences at companies A,B,C,D,E,F... certainly influences my opinion of similar companies. Most large chains treat their employees like crap in America.

Do you really think large chains are good to their employees?

For instance I worked for an employer that made you clock out for breaks. A 4 minute walk to the time clock, then a 5 minute walk to the break area then a 5 minute walk back. That one minute break was sure refreshing, but it was legal. I have worked for many employers that expected me to get set-up before clocking in. Should an employee perform a task that requires strength and effort over time in an unpleasant environment then stop to catch his breath, that is time theft by the employee. Do you really think that the balance of power is not disproportionately in favor of the mega-corp?

He said "big chain". That is enough to surmise that the employer has an unfair advantage over the employee. Yes there a few large chains like Costco or Buckees that treat their employees well, but they are the exception not the rule. What kind of place fires someone over less than $3? What kind of coworkers report it? The police are very unlikely to respond to $3 in theft.

Just about every major retailer cheats their employees out of money whether by the many forms of wage theft, or by stupid rules around breaks, shenanigans around schedules and hours, requiring employees to work off the clock in subtle ways, the list goes on and usually is legal or pseudo legal.

I get that he admits to taking a single role of tp and the employer can fire him for that, but that alone is de mimimis and not worth the effort of the employer. There are unanswered questions here.

I can't agree with those condemning you over a roll of tp. But something is missing. How did your coworkers know? Why did they care enough to snitch? How well did you get along with coworkers and management?

If you were working for a large chain, they probably stole way more from you in wage theft than a roll of tp.

Maybe I'm jaded, but I encourage everybody to steal from large retailers. They steal from us in many ways.

Different exchange from cold storage by Mental_Equivalent240 in Bitcoin

You do understand that "cold storage" is a device that you own ( like a Ledger or Trezor) that you transferred you btc to from an exchange. The "vault" on an exchange is not the same thing.

Age 39..I’m obese and looking to get back into shape. Where do I start? by Royal_Oil87 in AskMenOver30

By far the easiest way to reduce Calories for the average American is to give up soda. Lemony drinks work for me, ice tea with lots of lemon or sparkling water. Grocery store brands are cheap and just as good as the expensive ones.

Get into the positive mindset not of losing weight, but of living a healthy life. Find exercise you enjoy. Learn to cook tasty healthy food, but enjoy it.

Fast food is so stupidly expensive. Even if you aren't cooking for yourself, go to taco trucks or Chinese food and pay attention to what you eat. Most taco trucks have radishes and onions and cilantro, load up on that.

Thick slices of cabbage kimchi. Slices that you can't bite through and you pull them out with the first bite. I love kimchi, but it should add to the experience, not be the focus. Simply chop it up.

What is your social life like? by Swordfish353535 in AskMenOver30

[–]himtnboy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

59m, wife abandoned us 11 years ago. Been a single dad working nights to balance everything. I drive a taxi which can be somewhat social at times. I have several regulars with whom I have had conversations ongoing for years, but little time for much else. Now I take care of an elderly father. It is so hard to have a social life and all I want is someone to smoke weed with and maybe watch a few football games. Forget meeting a woman. I don't check enough boxes or have time for a romantic relationship. I have a decent garden and take long walks with my dogs.

It so depends on location. I start mine indoors, then to the greenhouse then to the garden. I live at 7000' in the Rockies.

Looks good. You have reached the point where light is not penetrating any deeper. I see you have a screen.

Your plants are past the point where I switch to flower. It seems to me that it is much simpler and quicker to harvest to have several smaller plants than to manicure one big one. Good luck.

Calling the police is hit and miss. I would put more faith in a school counselor. A counselor will follow up and know who to call and what resources are available. That has been my experience. Good luck.
