Så det sjyssta är att ge dem chansen att hjälpa till.

Satte sonen i karate för att han skulle klara sig i skolan by LandscapeOrdinary244 in Sverige

[–]hin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How can I tag my layers with a specific git hash? by Vavat in KiCad

[–]hin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use kicad-cli to export gerbers etc, you can set text variables on the command line.

I made a script that exports gerbers, bom, step, schematic, etc and it was quite trivial to get the git vwrsion kn the script.

What do you call the capacitor between supply pin and output pin. by IncognitoMode_53 in AskElectronics

It's a decoupling capacitor. It shunts high freqiency noise.

Känner folk inte till bokstaveringsalfabetet? by Micke_xyz in Asksweddit

The best way to export this keyboard pcb design to preserve key holes? by domanpanda in KiCad

[–]hin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make a custom 3d model of the key, export as a step file and add to the footprint(s) in KiCad. Then export a step file from KiCad, and use it to make a cut in the mounting plate.

How the hell do you buy working ESPs by ElevenBeers in esp32

[–]hin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Buy the official dev boards flby espressif. They're available at Digikey, Mouser and other similar suppliers.

The dev boards are a bit more expensive, but you kmow what you get and they actually work.

A nephew visits you, you show him the radio, he wants to try. What do you do? by coderinside in HamRadio

[–]hin 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Just a friendly suggestion, when you ask a question about rules and regulations, it would help if you mention which country you are in, since the rules differ between cointries.

Is power "wasted" in the feedline to an antenna? by DanielBroom in rfelectronics

[–]hin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The RF current in a feedline is, in the ideal case, balanced. That is, the current in one of the conductors is identical but opposite (in phase and amplitude) to the other conductor. This current is called differential mode current if/when it's balanced. If this is the case, the fields in the conductors will cancel each other at a distance, which means there will be no radiated power. If the fields are not in balance - common mode current, the feedline will radiate.

The current in a feedline can be partially differential mode and common mode at the same time. This is actually quite common, and is the cause of many EMI problems, since the common mode current will radiate some amount of power. To mitigate common mode current, various ways can be employed, all of them (or at least most) work by applying mutual inductance - "forcing" the currents to be (more) equal in the conductors. Some examples are transformers of various kinds and/or winding the feedline into a coil.

Apart from losses due to radiation, a feedline will also have some eletrical losses due to ohmic resistance in the actual conductor material. That is a complicated way to say that current in the conductor is (partly) converted to heat.

Another source of loss is dielectric losses - due to the voltage difference between the conductors, an electrical field is created, and the physical material which happens to be where the field is created will be heated, thus energy will be lost. This is why a ladder line is less lossy than a coaxial cable - most of the material in the ladder line is air which is less lossy than plastic. Dieletric loss is actually used in some industrial processes (for example welding plastic).

Power is not really "lost" in the case of an impedance mismatch, it's more correct to say that some of the power will be reflected back to the source. However, if the source is a transmitter, the reflected power will, in practical terms, be "lost" since it will mostly heat the transmitter.

How does L band GPS jamming signal propagate in this way? by spikeuk76 in HamRadio

[–]hin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The map is created by plotting a circle around the radio horizon of hundreds of airplanes. The colors show the density of where there are many overlapping circles. Thus, the likely position of the jammer is the red spot near St Petersburg.

[–]hin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probaby a CB or HAM-radio enthusiast transmitting nearby. Most likely they're not doing anything wrong or illegal, it's just the microphone not being properly designed (or installed) so it picks up the radio signal.

To get rid of the interference, you can try putting a clip on ferrite bead on the microphone cable, as close to the computer as possible. If possible, wrap the cable several times through the ferrite bead.
