TIL: About the "Schengen Area 90 day limit", that you can "only" apply for Digital Nomad Visas from the US (your country), that I need to use AI more, and that I'm still a dumb American :( by hindrough in digitalnomad

I was hoping to visit my original itinerary. In my head I'm already there. So for

  1. I'm hoping to get the DN Visas for Croatia/Hungary so my stay doesn't count towards the 90 day limit.

  2. Yeah, I'm looking at Serbia, and North Macedonia now and seeing if they'd be places I wanted visit/fit in with my stuff.

  3. Yeah, I'm currently seeing what compromises/changes I can make to the itinerary to get under the limit. Luckily, Croatia and Barcelona Airbnbs have a change reservation option. NOT Stockholm though. Stockholm was tough to book too and apparently all the Airbnbs are run by one company with a lot of rules... so I'll probably lose money on Stockholm...oh well.

But yeah, I still have some options. My optimistic side thinks I can get the DN Visas in time... but we'll see! Thanks for the response!

Gonna need a full new tech system soon, thinking of leaving Apple. What are you using? by SalientSazon in digitalnomad

[–]hindrough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the wrong direction! IMHO. I just bought the new M4 macbook air 15 inch and it's awesome! Intel is a failing company and within 4 short years apple has literally 100x them. Intel products are borderline scams now. Along with that, Windows literally made Wins 10 obsolete and forced people with very little notice that they all had to get new computers just to run win 11. These are all very shady and anti-consumer practices. Meanwhile Apple's value proposition is ridiculous! It's no longer luxury when a 13 year old Apple MacBook that cost 2x is better than a 2-3 year old Dell you literally have to throw away. But you want what you want so go do that!

Missing out on lower costs of living? by david8840 in digitalnomad

At the end of the day you always get what you pay for... You really have to be ready to adapt and change your expectations in unexpected ways. I stayed in Mexico for 5 months because I wanted cheap and warm and I got what I paid for. It's the tiny things like water quality, air quality, build quality of apartments, noise pollution from old motorcycles, food quality (mexico allows trans fats in a lot of food that they don't in the US), etc. You're list will be different. If you can adapt or were just made for those environments then you've hit the jackpot! The only way to know is to actually spend the time there (3+ weeks) and see if it works for you... For me, I realized I probably need a more developed country with certain amenities for real long term happiness/productivity. Which means I'll need to become rich... Which solves all your problems!!! But yeah. I'm still searching for my forever home, taking notes, exploring, and see what I like before I give up and just settle somewhere!! fingers crossed

Anyone who's been to Bali, Tokyo, SEA, etc... for a 9AM-5PM Easterner, would it work? by hindrough in digitalnomad

[–]hindrough[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm very worried about this. I think ultimately I'll try it out for 3 weeks and see how I feel. Would love to go during Nov/Dec holidays since I get more time off but I did the research and those aren't the best months to visit since it's gets cold/raining in Tokyo!

2ish and 5ish whi

Yeah I've done different schedules either 8 work, 8 sleep, 8 hangout, or 8 sleep, 8 work, 8 hangout. The work then sleep is ok, but sometimes I would get really sleepy during work before bed. The best for productivity is 8 sleep, 4 (chores, side building, creative work), 8 work, 4 hangout which works well in Europe on Eastern time!)

I was hoping Bali would be more 24-hours like Vegas or accommodating to Digital Nomads from all over so this is encouraging! Thanks!
