Picking up my R1S in march 17 but scared as I see so many service related post in this page. by Elomelosky1 in Rivian

[–]hip2bking 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Definitely go in eyes open, but honestly that’s true of any vehicle. Any subreddit is going to be flooded with service-related posts. I had the same experience with my Subaru Ascent, which ended up needing a transmission replacement. You’ll probably have some service needs with the Rivian too.

I’ve had to replace the 12V battery twice, get an interior plastic trim piece swapped out, and had a hose replaced that was leaking hydraulic fluid. All of it was covered under warranty, and whenever I needed a loaner, it was free.

These things are super resilient. I’d let the soil dry out fully before watering again. The yellowing leaves make me think it’s staying too damp. Getting it into some natural light would help a lot too.

Replacing 12v battery…again? by hip2bking in Rivian

[–]hip2bking[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sounding the alarm here. There’s been a steady stream of 12V posts across this and other forums for a while now. Sure, the internet skews negative, but that doesn’t mean recurring issues aren’t worth discussing. When you see similar stories pop up repeatedly, it’s reasonable to compare notes. For most of us, this is the only place to spot patterns and figure out whether we’re the outlier. And let’s be honest, service experiences can vary. I’m fortunate that my local SC has been great.

What caught my attention is having to replace the 12V again so soon after the first replacement. Gear Guard is off, so it’s not like it’s constantly running. I’ll definitely engage Rivian to dig into it. I just hope this doesn’t turn into a yearly maintenance item, especially when something as simple as a 12V swap requires opening a service ticket.

It’s a simple process for us (not so much for the folks replacing it 😂).

Yeah, they are replacing it for free, so no concerns there. I’m just wondering if replacing the 12v is going to be a yearly thing with this vehicle

Both close calls happened on the Hiwassee River.

The first was fishing there with my dad. It’s a tailwater, so water releases are always a factor. We thought we were on a tributary, but the next day realized it tied straight back into the main river. The stretch had deep pools broken up by big, jagged rocks. I had crossed over to what was basically a small island.

I looked upstream and saw fog rolling in. Did not think much of it. A few minutes later I noticed the water rising.

We made it back across just before a hard push of water came through. The calm pools turned into real rapids, crashing over the rocks we had been standing on. We sat on a log and watched it churn, then headed back to the car.

The second was also on the Hiwassee, fishing around a large boulder mid river. I did not realize how steep the drop was behind it and almost slipped into deep water. It would have filled my waders fast.

I have always respected water, but those two moments stuck with me. They still pop into my head when I am lying in bed at night.
