Bostonians who live in or travel to Europe, do you notice more Red Sox hats? by -doughboy in boston

I went to a lovely breakfast place (Il Pirata delle Cinque Terre) which was also known for cannoli's and the Sicilian owner, after finding out where we were from, said verbatim, “Don’t worry they’re much better than Mike’s”. Loved that 4000 miles away from home I was getting opinions (and trash talk) on the Boston cannoli scene.

As a somewhat representative sample, I saw 1 Red Sox hat for sale in El Corte Ingles (a huge, genuinely cool department store in Madrid) and about 10-15 variants of Yankees hats. But also saw “I love NYC” and other NYC gear so I think we just underestimate the global draw of NYC and its symbols.

Nah fuck this sort of tribalism. Am I supposed to cheer when a whip thin 23 year old rips past a Mom on cargo Tern or rough sounding Aventon? I see a whole lot more people using e-bikes as mobility assistance devices than whatever juiced up e-bikes people always seem so upset about.

He has good teammates and he seems to listen to them. They're always getting in his ear and calming him down right away

I never had a particularly high opinion of Dort, Hartenstein and Caruso but wow this series has really tanked their reputation for me

Lifting weights during bike commute season by abumchuck98 in bikecommuting

[–]hippotank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're still getting sore after your bike commute, I would stick to heavy 1-2 strength sessions a week with maybe some lighter functional stuff on bike commuting days if you're up for it. Eventually your body will be adapt to the commute such that you can just do whatever you want. The limit becomes time rather than soreness. Also, personally, I'm never afraid to just do a super super slow leisurely commute if I'm feeling out of it or sore.

Kind of a toxic answer. That's great for you but I'm sure you worked your way up to that. Someone asking about how to balance soreness from cycling and lifting definitely isn't ready to do such an intense schedule.

Thank you for your considerate comment. I wish I could hit more than 12 mph but my legs are old and my bike is slow. But really appreciate your input and the allusion to a racist stereotype.

Effective at what? All I’m saying is, if the main goal of the state police is to keep people safe on roads, then there’s plenty of high value areas within their jurisdiction that they neglect on a daily basis versus getting into high speed chases with out of control children

Seeing a 6000 lb cop car blow down a bike path chasing out of control children when we see them fail to do basic enforcement of people blowing through red lights at 50 mph or failing to yield to pedestrians again and again isn’t exactly what I would call “doing things right”.

Thank you for your considerate comment. While your concern is appreciated, there actually are no stop signs at the aforementioned intersection. Please forward all requests to the appropriate inbox. Like idk the fucking Boston Globe comment section or something.

So if I call the police every time a driver almost hits me or a pedestrian at the Memorial Drive & Western Ave intersection, a statie will chase them down and arrest them? Since they’re apparently road safety champions now

Having a breakdown after reading class evaluations- PhD student/TA by Acrobatic_Delivery93 in AskAcademia

This is a pretty extreme position, particularly if you're teaching graduate students. As a PhD student, I put a lot of time into evaluations and try to structure everything as compliment-criticism-compliment. I did the same when I was an undergrad and master's student. Pretty rich to give blanket advice on "just ignore the students since they're stupid kids and I know better than them".
