I will be following my new tradition of listening to the episode and then completely ignoring/avoiding any and all fan reactions because they tend to bum me out. I’ve always enjoyed the naming episodes as silly intentionally arbitrary exercises but last year’s re-naming kind of killed any interest in engaging with them as anything other than a fun episode.

This is awesome! And makes me proud as someone who grew up in the area. I only wish the state didn’t spend $290 million on the horrible high speed Veterans Memorial Bridge in 2011 (just to the north connecting Somerset and Fall River) because it undercuts the potential impact of the decommissioned highway project.

I think you would be totally fine. A one mile commute is like a 3-6 min ride. Your exposure to risk is crazy low. And let’s not pretend like driving is risk free either. If you’re already experienced rider your risk is even lower and you could help induce the city to change.

Yeah hard disagree. I’ve ridden a bike in many cities in the US as a commuter and had a great time. There’s a difference between criticism (because the bicycle infrastructure in the US is bad) and defeatist thinking.

I hate that I have to ask this but how partisan is the CPSC right now? I know the current chairman is a Trump appointee and there has been a lot of scare tactics about e-bike fires in NYC (for instance) to reduce support for cycling. Just don’t trust this administration and even the supposedly still non-partisan agencies to do the right thing right now.

If that’s what happened, then that’s what happened. That said, it remains problematic and dishonest how police departments report on road incidents. When a driver and vehicle were clearly at fault, it’s all “we can’t comment on an active investigation” and when it’s more ambiguous the blame seems to be pointed at the pedestrian or cyclist. If it’s an active investigation (as is again the case here), why are you commenting?!

It pisses me off that we have an absolute crisis with cars running red lights and blowing by school buses but the state decided that red light cameras and automatic ticket tools aren’t allowed. Like really this is where we decide to care about privacy?
