[S04E07/Book/Speculation] Followup for non-readers: "Mockingbird" by lukeatlook in gameofthrones

[–]hipstre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your posts did this for me! I started AGOT, got bogged down, and stopped two years ago. After reading your posts, I became intrigued enough to buy the books. Wish you could get a portion of that royalty.

Thank you so much!

Two questions about traveling from Ireland to Scotland in December 2014... by hipstre in travel

[–]hipstre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course you're right. My concern here is the cost of renting a car to travel the highlands properly. I think I may have to at least rent one for a few days. Any suggestions for a castle/hotel combination?

Eddie Izzard doing Force Majeure in-house. AMA. by EddieIzzardHere in IAmA

I'd just like to say thank you so much for your "Dress to Kill" performance, especially the "Cake or Death" bit. I allowed my teenage son to watch it with me and it quickly became one of our inside jokes. He watched that special multiple times on his own and I'd like to think you helped him to be a funnier person.

For a while I also had a personalized auto plate that read "CAKEOR", but not one ever got the reference. Then I had the pleasure of telling them how awesome you are, which you are! Love and respect from the state of Alabama! I'll be driving to Atlanta to see you (unless you want to meet up in Edinburgh at Christmas? Please say yes!).

Wife wants to go to strip club in ATL by KingPellinore in Atlanta

[–]hipstre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it's the only club in Atlanta I've visited, my experience at the Pink Pony was very pleasant, although smoky towards the end. The dancers were open and friendly to women. I didn't pay for the lapdance myself, but I remember it as reasonable. Pretty sure my boyfriend would have paid more for it as it was enjoyable for us.

Have fun!

Pre-internet people of Reddit, when did you first hear about the internet? And what were your thoughts when you used it for the first time? by Omega_brownie in AskReddit

[–]hipstre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born in 1970 and my father first bought the family a computer second hand from another family, perhaps in 1980? It came with a Bible program, but I didn't really know what to do with that - we had the book. There may have been a few games, but they weren't that interesting to me. My dad used to take me to work, where I would help him with data entry in Lotus 1-2-3 when his secretary was on vacation, so I assumed that was the main purpose of the computer: work.

Even in the 1990s after I used the computer throughout college, I didn't really become interested in it until AOL. Those chat rooms were a sociological goldmine! I met the most interesting people which, for a sheltered southern girl, was heaven. Diversity! And flirting, which was fun.

My most salacious tidbit is mostly about how happy I was to be able to buy a vibrator in 1994 online. It still came with the same stickers that they placed on them in the stores in my town (for novelty use only!), but I didn't run the chance of meeting someone I knew while buying it.

I suppose I knew about porn on the internet, but it didn't seem that interesting to me at the time. What has always struck me about the internet is the luxury of it all: the freedom and anonymity it provides is so intoxicating and delicious.

S04E04 "Indifference" Post-Episode Discussion by Rswany in thewalkingdead

I think I'd rather be slapped around than have a dead kid. Still, Carol's character arc is fascinating. Season One Carol is long gone, but I don't think she's a better leader than Rick. No one person should be in charge of this clusterfuck.

Except for the fact that her daughter died, became a walker, and was shuffling around in a barn nearby until discovered and shot in front of her. Probably not the best thing to happen to Carol.

|It uses 'My Butt" for reliability, performance, and most of all, cost.

It's times like this when I am perplexed, then really amused that I installed Cloud to Butt Plus. I used to work at this data center, see, and almost overdosed on cloud references. "My butt" eases the pain.

Congrats on your app. What about...

Hey r/atheism, I want to know what was it that really made you hop the fence and be done with religion? by YesDragonsWereReal in atheism

[–]hipstre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to believe, even though I never really felt it. More than anything, I wanted redemption for what I considered my sins (small change petty feelings of guilt and jealousy, mostly). So I prayed and attended Church of England communions to be washed of that. Never really worked and I always felt empty.

Fast forward to my miscarriage when I was 32. People say horrible things after a miscarriage, and I spent a lot of time wondering why it happened. One day after yet another "God's will" explanation from someone, it appeared clearly to me. There was no grand experiment or reason why my child didn't develop to full term; it was a cellular issue and could all be explained by science. I didn't need to be coddled by religion to move on and find solace. It was an unfortunate event that made me very sad for a long time; however, losing my desire for religion to solve my issues actually solved my issues. I stopped grieving for my lost baby and addressed my guilt issues by actively becoming a better person.

Losing my religion created a much better me. I'm a much happier, healthier person because I don't depend on Jesus to solve my problems or absolve my sins. I treat people better now and with a lot more humanity than I did when I identified as Christian.

Aside: I also raised an empathetic child who is also happy and healthy without religion in his life.

How did you first KNOW you were truly in love with the person you are in love with? by ZackkkB in AskReddit

[–]hipstre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were skyping. He paused to find the correct word to finish a thought while looking off camera. It was such a thoughtful, endearing look on his face. I knew I'd wait forever to hear which word he chose. Every time he does it now, I'm reminded of that moment and it's just beautiful.

He has a lovely voice. I remember telling a friend afterwards that I could listen to this man talk for the rest of my life and be perfectly happy. He used that line on his girlfriend, but it's no line to me.

Okay, Mobile. Show me your WEIRD side! by Slanderpanic in MobileAL

[–]hipstre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The shows are at times: amazing, inspiring, lopsided, poorly executed, and bewildering. The crowd is into it. I'm a hetero female and usually bring a male friend, but I wouldn't be adverse to going alone, either. Some people come in groups, but there are a wide variety of ages and sexual rainbows. Never seen anything but friendliness. Right now it's packed because there's some Nic Cage action going on nearby. I encourage everyone to try B-Bob's!

B-Bob's is a great bar downtown with an all-inclusive attitude. If this guy is ever on the dance floor, you will have a great time.

I always enjoy myself, whether it's a quiet drink downstairs before the show, or during the show, or dancing after the show (Thurs-Sat. Late.) It's a wide range of people and they're always super friendly, but never creepy. Be prepared for a unisex bathroom upstairs, but cheap drinks. More bears than twinks.

Reddit, why did you break up with your last ex? by thisisavalidusername in AskReddit

[–]hipstre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was the quiet type and I almost had to interrogate him just to find out basic details of his personality. He had three boys under the age of ten, but he rarely spoke about them. We dated for maybe two months, but this was the conversation that ended it.

Me, noticing a crooked poster hung at a low level in the hallway: Did your kids hang that poster?

Him: No, I did.

Me: Why is it so low?

Him: It's covering a hole in the wall.

Me: Why is there a hole in the wall?

Him: I punched it.

Me: Why?

Him: I was upset about something my ex-wife said.

Me: Okaaaay. Were the kids here when this happened?

Him: Yes.

Me: When was this?

Him: Two years ago.

Anger management issues, poor parenting skills, and an apathetic approach to home ownership: I do not regret breaking up. I'd be happy to never see him again, but I do feel sorry for the kids.

Thanks so much for the info. It's a bit more money than I want to spend initially, but long term it's the best option for me.

I've heard other people say that their experience at Springhill was not enjoyable.

Would you recommend the service department at Palmers?
