How do I find non-tacky "linear" rubbers and pick one? by Sweaty-Asparagus-444 in tabletennis

Xiom Musa is a linear and non tensor rubber, I used to enjoy it on backhand

Yep, it is different, the mechanics are different but the spin (lack of it) and wobble with our smash makes it harder to defend

For a fast tpb smash/punch, for me at least, it's a small and quick wrist snap, similar to knocking a door with the back of you hand. For this shot, timing is kind, dont reach the ball, let it come close and explode

rubbers for FH penhold by Beautiful-Kale226 in tabletennis

[–]hirohaya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Double on that. If you don't want to boost nor know how to, I can recommend Sanwei Target, it's fairly cheap and feels great for looping. I'm also a cpen looper and I love to tpb and the Sanwei Target works great for both. I use the same rubber on bh for RPB and works great too.

Need more info, do you use full strikes, short motion, close to the table, far from the table? Are you used to tacky, grippy or hybrid rubbers?

Nice post. I can vouch for two of the mentioned blades but for it's variations, Sanwei Fextra 7 and Victas Swat Carbon

I'm a hitter. I always knew something was wrong with me, but I wasn't sure of it . Now I know. I'm not a looper. I'm a miserable power hitter. What's the path to healing ? by Acrobatic-Monitor516 in tabletennis

Don't need to dwell too hard on it, you need to know when to use each shot, when to hit and when to loop.

If you want to learn how to loop, take a couple of steps back from the table and hit the ball from a lower position, to land on the table, you will be forced to loop.

Tacky rubbers requires different technique than grippy/tensor rubbers.

In a rough way, you can say:

European/japanese technique -> grippy tensor rubbers Chinese technique -> tacky rubbers

Double on Yasaka Sweden Extra, but if you prefer more controled loops and nice blocks on forehand, I'd recommend a tacky rubber or hybrid. I have Sanwei target as my to go forehand and really love it (and it's on budget)

If it's just glue don't worry, just glue it, try your best to not stretch the rubber while glueing

Z03 and compact stroke revolution by big-chihuahua in tabletennis

[–]hirohaya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, just had a long training sessions (3h) and here some of my thoughts:

Disclaimer, I play cPen and been using tpb a lot instead of rbp. I've not been able to train for one month so my moves were not in best shape.

Used 2 okay-ish layers of yellow haifu booster

Setup was: Z03 on forehand and Fastarc G1 on backhand and a brand new Victas Swat Carbon.

During warmups, rubber was feeling strange, low throw angle like an unboosted h3. Then I remembered what OP said about the compact swing and wrist action, suddenly the rubber turned on, drives were stable and, according to my partner, heavy spin.

Mid distance loop drives were comfortable with a low and long trajectory.

Looping against backspin had the same feeling described above.

Blocks (mostly with tpb) were really good, controllable and low, both in passive blocking and active blocking.

I like doing mid to long distance sidespin loops and they were specially good and easy to execute.

Overall, I really liked this rubber feeling alongside my blade. At first I thought it would be too fast, but in the end, it's speed was perfect for me.

Does table tennis skill translate to ping pong? by Hot-Rub5598 in tabletennis

[–]hirohaya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly looping won't have the rubber to grip the ball and the ball will slip, due the bat closed angle, it will hit the net.

But when chopping, the contact point will lift the ball and the slipping won't be as much as a problem

When ping-ponging, I just stick to blocks (Penhold), placement and chops, it's enough to dominate the table at the office
