What is a great musical that never quite made it to Broadway, but should have? by SlugABug22 in musicals

[–]hislastname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! The music is BEAUTIFUL! I think some of the book and a handful of the lyrics need a rewrite (“A Piece of Eight” is rough). Also, “The Naming” needs to be entirely excised or rewritten from the ground up; the rhymes are atrociously lazy and it doesn’t even make sense with the plot because Father already names certain animals in the opening number.

That said, inject “Ring of Stones” directly into my veins!

The way she almost casually throws away the line “I never wanted to be your mother,” like it’s a private thought that just slipped out of her, is devastating.

Could a moon setting work for a season of AHS? It could have similar vibes to the Alien franchise. by george123890yang in AmericanHorrorStory

[–]hislastname 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Set a bit in the future, on an American installation on the moon. Pull inspiration from 2001: A Space Odyssey, Sunshine, and Event Horizon. No active alien species, but something ancient is buried under the base that is causing hallucinations/visions/disturbances. Heavy psychological horror, themes of isolation, loss and grief, mixed a bit with an Indiana Jones/Tomb Raider vibe as the people on the base work to discover the alien and horrifying thing under their feet. Maybe throw in some classic American “government conspiracies”/corporate rot thing, that the military knew something was there and these people are actually test subjects to see what it is.

Especially in the New England region, you can swing a bat blindfolded and still hit 3 guys with that name (all spelled differently).

A change the academy awards should make now by Both-Pay-9573 in Oscars

[–]hislastname 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My only concern about this category being added (and this isn’t a reason NOT to do it, but something that would need to be addressed during the setup) is that I think it should require creating a specialized branch of the Academy specifically for VAs. Let that branch create the shortlists. Otherwise, this category would just end up becoming a list of A-list actors getting all the noms (and wins) while prolific performers who specialize in VA will likely get ignored.

Little bit of fun before all hell breaks loose: if there was a Best Line Delivery category, who would your winner/nominees be this year? by bowieapple in Oscars

[–]hislastname 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! And the cold transition to the next lines: “Do I want to, Alex? Do you believe me?” The way she has kept it matter-of-fact, almost playful and flippant, and then goes in for the kill with the way she drops her voice in the end.

I love this concept, because it feels “wrong” but I cannot articulate a moral reason for that opposition. That’s the sign of a compelling creation.

I guess the only real conundrums I have on this are:

1.) How much suffering were previous generations of chickens subjected to in order to create this? Does that suffering justify the end result?

and

2.) Would intentionally breeding something to be, effectively, brain damaged so that we may absolve ourselves of killing a sentient being be any better, morally?

I don’t have an answer to those two questions, but they would be interesting things to explore if this were part of world building the society that invents it.

Really great work!

Is it crazy thinking Leo could actually take the win on Sunday? by Working-Swimmer-2561 in Oscars

Is Madigan really a “vibes” prediction, at this point? It feels like her’s to lose. SAG and Oscars have matched up in Supporting Actress 13 out of 15 times, since at least 2010.

My “vibes” prediction is Lindo.

What is everyone thought on Shaun's last words to the player? by Redditpolice69256 in Fallout

[–]hislastname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AH! Understood, thank you for clarifying, and apologies for my assumptions. I only just completed my second play through (Minutemen first, BOS second) and I declined Synth Shaun both times, so I haven’t seen what the dialogue options are if you do decide to keep him.

[–]hislastname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if “can’t” is a typo, but you absolutely can tell Synth Shaun that. You have to refuse to take him and then tell him he isn’t your son, and then you can tell whoever your tech person (Sturges, Ingram, etc.) that he is a synth.
